Need help with getting people connected on server

Ok i am trying to run my own server on my computer. I have forwarded all the needed ports (30720, 32123, etc..) with TCP and UDP. I am running on a 2002 media center edition of Windows xp with SP2. The server runs fine, i can connect to it myself, and i am fine with my lag. Every time i get someone to try to connect to my server they don't reach to it and don't connect. I have a static IP and i don't have a firewall. I am running on DSL and idk what else to do. The server is not currently up now, but if it is needed to be up, ill put it up.

make sure windows firewall is off.

It doesn't let me get to windows firewall settings it gives me an error.

Windows cannot start the firewall/internet service.

I searched up how to fix it and the final conclusion was to re-install windows xp SP2 which i have done like 5 times before.

Ok i updated my windows to SP3 and firewall is now off. I still cant get people connected to it.

Learn to ask questions, when you ask, you ever give the problem that you get, specify please. maybe some screenshoots, a log.

Never mind about this, my friend Aaron5367 helped me with this problem, he is a genius! It turns out my forwarded ports were done wrong, and we tried 50 different things to fix it and he he told me to try the DMZ option in my router to run my server, and now it works.... That guy is great.

DMZ meaning that now your computer is completely vunerable from the internet because now ALL ports are open. Congrats! Get a new friend.

That's awkward, i disabled the DMZ option because nothing in my house could connect to my router, even when the server was up. I disabled that and everything went back to normal. I did that long before, sometime yesterday, but thx for the warning anyways.

Its a pointless warning.  Anyone who thinks nat = firewall is worse off than you.
Nat's limited "firewalling" ability's are a side affect, and should never ever be relied upon for security.

This is partially true. Nat is better than nothing. And, if you don't have servers/software listening on open ports there is nothing to break really or to break into. I was mostly pointing to the fact that router manufacturers often treat the meaning of the word "DMZ" wrong.
