It is: Troubleshooting.

A guid is a unique number/character combination identifiying you to the server you connect to. It sits in a file called qkey and is placed in your tremulous directory. You need a more recent/none stock client to get it. A good place would be http://trem.tjw.org/backport or http://trem-servers.com/index.php?page=downloads

Then you should put the following line into either your autogen.cfg or autoexec.cfg

seta cl_guidServerUniq "1"

On servers that have it you can now do !register to protect your name from being used by someone else. (The protection is not perfect as is no security measure ever conceived)

-------------------------
This only applies if you already have a client with guid support:
Attention:

If you have admin on a server and change this line, you will lose your admin status due to the fact that now instead of a generic guid you get a server specific for every server you connect to.

I recommend this client. It includes an Options menu right at the main screen so you don't have to use /menu ingame_options.

im a bit of a newb, as stated above.

right, basically, people have tried to give me admin rights but it says "this player doesnt have a GUID"

so do i need to download a new client? And how come its not on the actual trem site... Or is it a function thats been player made, like server packages?

Zero

GUID = Global Unique Identifier. or Global Unique Identification.

its a function thats been added after the last release so you need a backported client or tjw client
goto the site bissig said and overwrite your executable (make sure you have a backup). thats all there is to it
if you have never had a guid one will be automatically generated by the client the first time you use it

there is plenty of other clients around most have extra features like client file logging autonamelog that are useful for admins others have handy user functions like amanieus cvar thing \$$cvar\ etc just look around on the forums

the next tremulous (which will probably never come out at this rate) will have guid support.

I don't think you're a newb... I didn't know what a GUID was until I read this thread.  I think they should explain what they are somewhere.
