Running Tremulous without being on server?

Howdy,
This may be a stupid question, but can a person run Tremulous without being on a server.  I'm new to Tremulous and I am looking for a first person shooter game that I can run on my computer without being on a server.  My internet connection is lame, but I want to play a good shooter game.  If Tremulous can't be played without being on a server can anyone suggest another first person shooter for Ubuntu LInux.  Thank you for your help and suggestions!

Sorry, no. You can host your own server and play with bots, but they aren't very good.

you can take a look at sauerbraten, which comes with a single player mode:

Even with a 56k modem you should be able to play on public servers. Choose servers close to you and with a low maximal players setting. Adjust the connection settings of tremulous to something reflecting your modem speed.
