Ladder, cup, tourney or something?
« on: June 17, 2006, 10:10:37 pm »
Hi all,

for a while now I have been thinking about organizing a tremulous ladder or cup...
I could run the thing on the MTI website, provided there are enough teams to play and some people to help out as league admins / referees.

So what could it look like?

- a small simple team organization
- a ladder or cup system (I would start with 3on3)
- matchresults have to be confirmed by both teams
- matches can be commented by members of both teams
- admins / referees have last word and can give default wins
- fixed server config and rules
- a free password-protected matchserver (located in germany)
- other servers possible as long as they use the match config

And no, it could not start right away, it would have to be coded first... ;)
So before I start working on it I would like to know how many people would be interested in such a project (as players or admins).

Please comment!

Danny

Even in a fun ladder there is always cause for trouble. People thinking others are cheating, someone being an idiot during a match, people actually cheating during a match and so on...

As a ladder admin it is your task to have a look at screenshots, demos, logs, other evidence, listen to what people say and finally making a decision: Drop match, replay match, default win for one team, ban a player or team from the ladder and so on...

As this would be a fun ladder admins could be players, but not be admins for their own matches... ;)

Basi, how about putting a team together? I guess there are more people without that would like to play in a ladder!

Anything like this gets my support ;).

I think a ladder has more chance of being succesful at the moment because it doesn't depend on having a specific or large number of clans and does not necessarily need a finite time limit -- i.e. it can just keep going forever.

I don't know how the format of a match would actually go. I guess each clan would choose a map and then play it twice, once for each race. This means 4 games per match I suppose?

I was thinking more of a non-clan ladder  and / or a clan-only ladder tournament, but i think both would succeed  :) .

That is how we played matches by now. Although 3on3 you have to cut the timelimit a bit, otherwise you may play up to 4 hours...

My suggestion would be timelimit 30 with sudden death 20 or 25.

Danny

P.S.: About clans or not... in my opinion this should not be regulated. If there is a team of 3 that is no clan they can take part as well as a clan that may have 1, 2 or even 3 teams.

Is there a ladder solution for individuals? some mode that is not hard to plan and moderate? (and document)

Oh, and ill join whatever team. But i dont want to lose my individual charisma  8)  8)  8)  8) (which translates in, hhm.. u know.. colored text   )

Or make some option for inviduals to be hooked up to form a squad. As there aren't that many clans in trem as far as I see.

I'd say have either 30 minutes with 25 min SD, or 60 minutes with 50 min SD. Also each match would have to have 2 games, playing as each side and for the sake of fairness, find a map that is pretty balanced race-wise.

How about adding some useful stuff for competition gaming ? :)

-Move victory message to the center of the scoreboard:
example
and make it permanent, so you don't have to wait for exact moment to take screenshot.

-Add pause
Let's say someone drops (lost connection for example) and would kinda suck to play with 1 less player.

-Add team lock
Players can't switch teams in the middle of the match unless team is unlocked (be careful to set it to unlocked if a team has no players).

Maybe even add spectator locking, so that spectators couldn't see when you move structures.

-Add vote match_restart
Should reset match without restarting map or setting player info to spectator. Players would still keep their team info and would only have to select class/weapon at start.

-Upgrade callvote kick command
Should use client number instead of nick.

I can't imagine running a cup without some of those features tbh.

Might be worth making a submission list for people without a clan, would help in forming teams.
