Whoa the 'early sketch of a soldier' looks so much like one of the monsters, the 'needler', from 'Silent Hill: Homecoming'. Maybe they stole the idea...

Unanimated, www.tremulous.net/screenshots has some really old in-game shots if you look at pages 6-13. Here are a couple examples:
