Help with MD3
« on: September 22, 2008, 12:47:30 am »
Hello,
I cant seem to get md3 files to work on my map.
For example, I put a misc_model on my map and select a tree.
It appears as shader not found.
I put the .shader file in mymap/scripts and the .md3 file in mymap/models/mapobjects/grtrees
When i pack the .pk3 and run the game, the tree does not appear.

Am i doing anything wrong? Can someone guide me through the steps of placing a .md3 on a map correctly?

Add the .shader file to shaderlist.txt.

when you say it appears as "shader not found" do you mean it's a little box with "shader not found" written on it?

if so, then gtkradiant isn't finding the md3 model itself, which is more of a problem than it not finding shaders. select the little box and then press n to bring up the entities editor. click on the line that says something like...

model models/mapobjects/stuff/stuff.md3

...and it will get loaded into the key and value boxes below. check the filepaths is correct in the value box, if it isn't then correct it and press enter.

Yep.
The red one with 'shader image missing'
and the blue one with 'shader not found'

Edit:
Tried that, but the paths were correct.

if you want i can take a closer look at it for you. you could send me the pk3 containing the md3 along with your .map file and i'll see if i can figure it out.

Here is how I got MD3's to work, specifically one of a dragoon.

I had my good friend Raoni (co-partner on Dretch Range) eliminate all of the "states" of the dragoon md3 that I did not want/need (by states I mean different positions). He then exported it to me, and I put in radiant.

In radiant, I had to manually define the location of the md3 texture file using the _remap or remap key (I forget which one it is).

It's tedious, I know, but it works. Oh, and Raoni used Blender.
