Missing Radiant feature?
« on: September 23, 2008, 08:15:15 pm »
I've been reading a few tutorials about creating decent looking terrain, and I decided to put them into practice. However, they all seem to revolve around you being able to ctrl+drag an edge to shear a brush. When I ctrl+drag in GtkRadiant 1.5, nothing happens, rendering the tutorials pretty useless.

Anyone got this to work?

I only get it to work in the old 1.4 version.

I only see 1.5 available from qeradiant.com - I'm assuming 1.4 is still available, but how might I get hold of it?

I ran into troubles making terrain some time ago, but I practiced the triangular brush approach and wrote up some tutorials here - the rockwall tutorials cover terrain creation, all of these were done with Radiant 1.5

Also, SimonOC's mapping articles provide very useful information about terrain creation.

I always use F.A.T.E. to create terrain. Many claim that it is unfinished program, but it allows you to shape terrain manually, and the only requirement is to create textures and apply them to the already made shaders (fate automatically creates dot 2 product terrain shaders). Also another nifty feature I find very useful is the hexagonal structure, makes terrain look better with the same polycount

If you are on Windows, Nem's Terrain Generator is a pretty neat tool.
