Der Master-server wurde vor kurzem neu gestartet. Es sollte jetzt wieder funktionieren.

Wir haben viele deutshe Spieler.  Sie haben den Text ubersetzt.

We've got a lot of German players, and they translated the important parts.  English is not the international language.  There are translation tools available, or you could, *gasp*, learn a second language.

Personally, I like seeing German &c. scroll by while playing in the middle of the day.

We ve got a lot of French players here, nevertheless i dont speak French. English is my second language, and Spanish my third. So because there are lot of German players i should learn a fourth language ?

Or maybe i should start speaking in French and let you translate. I m sure you re gonna enjoy it when Greeks, Italians, Spanishs, etc... will start speaking in their own language too. Have fun to determine who is speaking in which language and a tool appropriate to translate their language

English is the language of choice when there are people from many countries who dont speak the same language in the same discussion. If i had to answer in French i would do it in private messages.

I'm sorry to tell you this Jeff but english IS international language, in any international organisation/company people usually use two languages - English and French (in NATO, ICJ etc.)
Whatsmore it doesn't matter how many people speak one language, but how diversified the society is... Like Spanish is spoken in Spain (amazing :P) and in South America, Chinese is spoken by many, many, many more people but in China only (or mostly).

Except for Polish I have to use English and French, sometimes German (job requirement -.-) so there is no problem with me if you consider those four languages being used here, but what if someone would start speaking Italian, Norwegian, Finish (Finish sounds cool), Hungarian (also one of my favourites :P )?

The problem is that if you make a decision to join international community, you have to play by their rules - use easiest language possible - English.

And about this "learning languages thing *sigh* maybe you should learn few more?

I speak german a little and i understand what they were saying ;). But i think we should use one langauge to communicate on international forum (and tremulous-forum is such forum) if we want to avoid chaos (like Ksempac said). In Europe the most popular language is english so we talking here in english. The same is when we play tremu - (or any other multiplayer game with players from many countries) we using the most understandable language for others.

And guys from where you get those pictures like "marauder for life" etc (sorry for this offtop )

And sorry for my english :P

Search the forum for "userbars". There's a topic where some people posted those pictures.

You'll have to excuse me.  My ire wasn't directed at polyglots, rather the opposite.  You see, I said 'second' language.

My point was that there are people who aren't particularly good with English, and will sometimes need to ask things in their native tongue.  I, personally, do not think this path leads to chaos.  Maybe some fragmenting based on languages known (I'm a native English speaker, but I know enough German to be dangerous.  I'm a fucking American, if you will).

Again, that wasn't particularly clear, but then, I'm not known for being clear.  Which is another part of the problem.  I use constructs that are confusing to native speakers, so being reminded that this is an international community might help.  Well, shit, I'm lost cause--I'm terrible at paring down my thoughts. ;)

I think I'm still irritated about finding out that I'm related to the worst kind of fucking Americans.  You know, the kind who go to Europe and get annoyed that everyone is speaking Italian when they're in Rome.

Beyond that, I work in a very international workplace.  We are a US company (in the Bay Area), so English is the norm, but I hear Spanish and Chinese quite a bit.  We also have more than a couple Indians in the mix.  I happen to be born and bred on the West Coast and have a thick accent because of it[1].  I can be difficult to understand.

So, my point really was, I don't think it is a big deal if there are other languages present on the board.  Particularly if there is a nod towards English in the posts.  I think I'm going to get voted down on this.  So I'm not going to push.

Stop being so ignorant and start clicking the 'back' button when you see threads where people post in foreign languages, if it offends you so much.

I once played a game with about 5-6 people, and I could understand only one other person because we all spoke different languages. I asked how many people understood everythng everyone had said; nobody replied. I asked how many understood anything I had said; one person replied. And I sincerely thought it was fun!

I just don't get the problem :]

The initial posts were completely translated - no need to argue imho. It's not like they've spammed the whole board in different cryptic languages :]

I totally agree with some of you though, when it comes to the use of english language as long as there are people from different countries. I try not to talk too much german when playing on a server, 'coz I know me getting easily pissed, if some guys use the shooter as their personal instant messenger with funny three dimensional add-ons; talking about something that obviously can't have anything to do with the game :]
