« on: October 03, 2008, 09:31:49 am »
I reas the tutorial about clipping, however it only teaches 2 point clipping. Mys questions are:

1)Ive made a Cylinder and i want it to go through one of my rooms, how do i cut the right sized circle in the roof of the room?

2) I dotn know what ive done but in free look mode, when ever i right click i can free look, but as soon as u press up to move around or any key for that matter, it changes the crosshair back into the mouse cursor and i cant move in that window

Why do you keep posting questions, without even having the courtesy to reply to people who are taking the time replying to your earlier questions?

Because i got a single reply, from you, which was this

"Search and Google.

Must be really hard... "

So you try answer my question and then belittle me. I might add they didnt fix my problem and i had already done that search for my problem. Instead a user pmed and helped me with the "courtesy" of not making me feel like an idiot.

Instead of posting in these threads to which you are clearly not contributing, but expecting a "thank you" for "helping whilst belittling me :D", can anyone able to link me to some help for my questions?

You don't, there is no way to 'cut' a curved hole in a brush (I assume your roof is made of brushes),
you will have to 'build' the hole from patches. Note that in general, it is a bad idea to 'cut' holes in radiant.
It's usually better to construct holes. Take a look at nano, it has a large circular hole in the middle.

2) I dotn know what ive done but in free look mode, when ever i right click i can free look, but as soon as u press up to move around or any key for that matter, it changes the crosshair back into the mouse cursor and i cant move in that window

Make sure capslock and numlock are disabled. The 3D window doesn't like it when either
of these is on.

You create a square hole from brushes, then use patches to fill the gap between the cylinder and the edges of the hole. Remember that patches cannot be structural.

aaaaah i get you, just like i did with the edges of the cylinder.... when you say patches cannot be structural what does that mean? when i make a patch its only 1 sided, would this affect a room (or a cave) if the sides were only patched, or do they need a *solid* brush to be attached to it?

For example, here is my level

I want to have this "pipe" connect the top (outer world) to the underworld, which is a cave. Ive used single brushes for the ground and roofs of both of them. So ill reduce the sizes and add more brushes to leave a "box" into them, and apply meshes to cover the gaps... is this correct?

You can actually click the words 'Search' and 'Google' in my post, both are links that take you to the answer of both questions you asked.
