Breakable Helmets

I was just thinking that it would balance things nicely if helmets could be broken after three to five successful headbites. The helmets offer a lot of protection and are pretty inexpensive as it is, so I see this as a nice compromise.

Wouldn't 5 headbites mean death anyway ? :P

The loss of equipment is bad enough...

Rekov

Not necessarily. If the person got 1 headbyte and then healed, and then came back and got another one, ect.

It makes sense from a realistic point of view, but what does it do in terms of balance for the game?

The problem arises from the specific nature of armor upgrades , there is no armor count like in... well , any other FPS in existance :P

NS features armor that can be welded , and alien carapace that has to be healed (like hit points) , maybe Tremulous could find some inspiration here. Armor that can be repaired by a construction kit and carapace that requires the overmind (or a booster) to heal would have some significance in gameplay. Teamwork would become crucial at once for humans , making battlesuit rambos short lived (as they are in NS)

Selling damaged armor would only return a fraction of its price , of course :P

um..Aliens don't have any armour.

They don't have "armor" per-se but they do have tough hides etc.

Neo

but as far as the underlying game mechanics are concerned aliens are unarmoured, they just get more hp so they live longer. any gun will do the same damage to a tyrant as it does to a dretch.

Oh, ya, forgot about that  .

I think breakable helmets is a good idea as long as they can be fixed for free as if it were ammunition.  Would be kind of unfair having to buy a ton of helmets every game.  (By the way, hi guys.  I'm new to the forum, glad to meet you all.)
