Maps for mac.
« on: October 07, 2008, 07:59:12 pm »
Ok, so I just started Tremulos about 3 weeks ago. And I must say addicting game :P.

...But I can not play some of the maps, Maps I know for sure I can play are, map-atcs-1.1.0.pk3, map-niveus-1.1.0.pk3, map-karith-1.1.0.pk3, map-transit-1.1.0.pk3, and map-tremor,1.1.0.pk3.

I know where to get the map's at, but when I download them they never work. ???

If someone can please try and explain it to me how to get the other maps working would help ALOT.

And please try to do it as simple as possible getting use to the hole "Mac" stuff.

And please don't come in here bashing me or other people about this topic.

Thank you,

p00p. ;D

Maps are not OS specific. Put the .pk3 files in your tremulous base folder (the same place as the maps that you can play are), then use /map [mapname] or /devmap [mapname] to start them. The map names have tab completion.

What do you mean by "use /map [mapname] or /devmap [mapname] to start them." ?

Like when I get the map's from other sites there in Document form, While the map's I can play are in Unix Executable File(.exec).

Is there a way to make the other map's into .exec file's?

These are the commands you issue in the tremulous console. Press the tilde key to open it (the key immediately to the left of 1). For example to start ATCS you'd type "/map atcs". Use /map for normal mode and /devmap to enable cheats. Almost all maps, including the stock maps, are contained in .pk3 files, these are just normal .zip files. The maps themselves are not executables.

I tried that and every time it says "UNKNOW  COMMAND".

Don't download them with Safari, because it does weird things to the files. And enter the commands in the Tremulous console.

No it doesn't... If the pk3 file is by itself it'll automatically decompress the file if it's set to do that, but that's the fault of people who don't appropriately package their releases!

...who are most of the people that put maps up for download in the first place.

Also, the OP probably doesn't even know how to use the Preferences panel.

Just because it's the way most people do it, doesn't mean it's a good way to do it. Personally I always make sure that I have everything contained within a folder, including documentation (if necessary), and then compress that. I never just upload the file by itself.

Meh, I would first recommend just turning on autodownload and having it automatically download the maps as you come to them.

If you insist upon searching the Tremulous forums to download maps Ill try to help.
If you downloaded and you find it in folder form and not .pk3 form, compress it and , using get info, change the ending from .zip to .pk3 from there put it in your username->library->application support->tremulous->base folder and it should work
