That is reason why I still not using new client. You must backup your guid, config and new config will be somewhere else. With configs will be totally mess atleast on windows. I don't understand why that files must be in local settings and if I am right, with new client AGAIN somewhere else. Why it is not in trem folder with game together (btw, there's are also somewhat configs)?  :'(

Because windows is trying to be multi-user, and on vista you shouldn't be able to write to prog files without a password.
I think its %APPDATA%/tremulous/base for userfiles, and program files/tremulous/ for where the bin goes.

I have win XP and tremulous is in e:\hry\tremulous. Anything tremulous related outside this dir is annoying for me. And how we can see, for many users around. Multiuser benefit probably 0.1% trem players. I think that password for writing to program files is strange, many programs do that. But if it need be like this, ok. Only my opinion is that is confusing.

quite simply its a risk. windows always did it like that. that's why other OS don't get/have as many viruses i am sure its a 1-2 line change to change that behavior to what you want.

the code starts at sys_win32.c line 48.
