Hi there,
I have been playing Tremulous for quite a while now and now wanted to start using Tremulous with VOIP provided by Skype, but there seem to be some issues with that.
I use Mandriva in the One 2008 Version, which uses KDE before 4 (don't know the exact version, could look it up if it turns out to be important for this problem) on a laptop, the cheapest available headset ever (and I mean it!), Skype Version 2.0.0.72 and Tremulous with the TWJ-Backport and AFAIK no other modifications on my (i.e. client) side.
Okay, now the issues I have:
First of all I don't have any sound in Tremulous when using it with VOIP, but I guess that is okay and I could live with it if the other problems could be resolved.
The main problem is that after a short while in game I get a constant stream of the error message "Dropping sound", while VOIP usually continues to work.
Another problem, probably related to the beforementioned one is that when i want to shut down Tremulous (either using /quit or using the normal menu) while using VOIP simultaneously Tremulous just freezes and I have to restart/ctrl+alt+backspace (=killing the x-server) to resolve it. While Trem is frozen VOIP is still working.
Whenever I use Skype with the VOIP-feature I have to shut down Amarok completely before it works, but I guess thats normal, because Amarok otherwise "occupies" the channel used for VOIP...
Now, I am aware of this Thread (
http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=2177.0), but I don't have any problems with sound on any other device or in other programs, everything is working fine, including playing music over Amarok and playing Trem at the same time, so I very much doubt that it is a driver-related issue and I am too nooby to recompile Tremulous with the line in the sourcecode removed that does the output for the certain error message (plus, that doesn't solve the problem, just kills the consequences, and I would prefer an actual solution). Naturally I googled the problem, but I mostly found people having the same problem and not finding a solution for it.
BTW: I tested this with the Singleplayer-Version of the Quake-Engine as used in OpenArena and although I don't get the "Dropping Sound"-Message the sound doesn't work and it freezes on exit, so maybe this is a problem within the Quake-Engine?
So, is there anyone out there who can help me with the problem or has any idea on what the problem might be?
Thank you in advance,
