Is there anything I can do to up my framerate?

- nexus6 pipe stairs near alien base + one human = 5fps

- uncreation human base jetpacked to the ceiling = 5fps on half of the map(!?!?)

- nexus6 on 1000bp server (stupid idea) and 20 turrets in human base = 5fps

- many more, but te one above with 20 turrets is easy to reproduce so no point in listing more

is this some clipping bug? new particle system bug? some hidden ninja loop making my system crawl?
I always ask ppl on the server is it only me and _every_ time some other poor soul has the same 5fps problems in same places.

AMD 2GHz, 512MB, GF4 4200@4600 64MB, nevest drivers, XP SP2, trem on 640@low (but it does not help, i get _same_ fps in 1024@high, that is 80-20 in normal places, 5fps when this bug occurs)

help? anything but "upgrade" is welcome.

um upgrade *cough*...

512 ram is ok but u should know that windows itself sucks up a lot of resources  then ur vid card sucks up a bit and then tremulous itself sucks up a lot...

try lowering video quality settings ingame.. i have mine on lowest for best quality and with a 1 gb 3.02 processor i still get a kinda low fps.. uncreaction is a pretty laggy map... but then again i have onboard video.. which blows..

but yeah try lowering ur ingame settings c if that helps.. other than that *cough* upgrade a slight bit more

erm, everything is on lowest, in trem and in nvidia Opengl drivers settings, but as I said earlier it does NOT matter, i get SAME fps in 1024@hi  till this 5fps thingie happens (20-80 fps on the whole map with humans aliens and what not)

@windows, I got only 7 services running, system tweaked to the max, trem running exclusivelly. it is NOT ram issue (no hdd swap). more like a lag thing - same 5fps happens when server lags (whole server, not single people) so maybe there is some magic client-server syncing involved?

slow in graphic rich places is one thing (I get 12fps in "particle accelerator chamber" on Nexus6), and steady 5fps no matter where I look if 'I'm in human ceiling base on uncreation' is something another :(

Q3 is a very old engine. it was written when GF3 and 1GHz CPU was a dream machine. Something is very wrong here.

ps: BTW AMD 2GHz ~= P4 3GHz, and GF4 4600 is faster than intel integrated "accelerator" so there u go :/

This is the problem not RAM:

GF4 4200@4600 64MB

64 MB graphical memory is too little. Get a better graphics card.

If the problem is indeed GPU RAM, try to activate the texture compression if it isn't on and if all else fails, a good r_picmip 6 should get rid of the textures for you :P

it is NOT GF4 ram issue, Q3 was running 50-100fps on 16MB cards few years ago.
DXT1 or DXT3 does not help with this problem :(. Its not texture bound, more like particle or geometry bound. Did you (trem guys) messed with geometry in q3 engine? I get _same_ ~12 fps in "particle accelerator room" (that glass pipe) on nexus6 with 640@low and 1024@high.

Hmm as an act of desperation i'm gonna download trem once more and reinstall.

Actually ... my bad I was wrong ... I forgot that this game runs great on my laptop with a GeForce 4 420 Go (32 MB Video RAM) ... so it's not the video card either ... you know it's probably a virus eating your files :o

First, I'll like to say that having Q3 run perfectly with a 16MB card has no bearing with the way Trem will work with that same card. GPU RAM depends entirely on the amount of textures needed by the game and I'm sure you could find Quake 3 levels that require a 256MB videocard to run at max detail settings due to a massive usage of 1024x1024 textures :)

Second, the engine is the same than Quake 3 more or less, but the maps aren't the same. I suspect some maps to have a too big or too complex PVS in those situations.

maybe those are map problems, maybe bsp trees are too small and engine has to render/calculate too much (I had 5fps on HALF of uncreation, but the source of a problem was only in human base, BTW you can see human base there thru the wall/ceiling from side room).

of course not, I even kill uTorrent when I play.
I'm leaning toward 'server specific', because lately I play only on satgnu and db and dont see 5fps bug

ok, new info

http://img245.imageshack.us/my.php?image=13fps9tr.jpg

as you can see trem is TWEAKED to the max, almost no textures, no lightning, no nothing, 1024/768, Linux tweaked to the max , newest nvidia drivers and all.

Conclusion :
-not a graphic card problem (just look at those poo graphic settings)
-not an OS problem
-not an internet connection problem (empty server)
-not a sound problem (diffrent OSes = different drivers)

13 FPS !!! :/
So its cpu bound problem. AMD 2GHz cpu (XP tru_something B). 1955MHz to be exact, 17x115MHz fsb, ram running at 145MHz.

Uncreation is bugged, please do something with this map :( There are multiple flickering textures (one on the left from the reactor, just in the corner), multiple places with holes in  the walls (you can see other rooms thru them), and this horrible framerate.

The flickering textures is called Z-fighting, if I am not mistaken.

I think it's more the fault of the turret smoke in that case than the map. I get much better FPS when the turrets aren't smoking than when they are. Although it might be a combined problem of those two factors ( uncreation + smoke => slowdown )

the worst case scenario is a blowing up structure in human base = below 1 fps
