« on: November 20, 2008, 06:07:35 pm »

Thanks in advance!

There aren't any bots or whatever, so no single player.
You have to play online.
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

i know 2 mods that you can use to play alone on local server (or on their server, for play with other player)

ambush : http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=8864.0
invasion : http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=9058.0

run a local server with one of these mod and have fun alone :p (if you don't want to run a local server, go on their server when it's empty)

Such a wonderful single player experience there.
That's one way to make people think trem is shit.

He asked for single player *tremulous*.  Not shooting hordes of stupid monsters.  Two very different things.

david, invasion is not "shooting hordes of stupids monsters"
it's a rush mod, solo or with other player, and survivor mod. kill a bot is easy, ok, but rush the base without dying is realy not reasy.
if you think it's so easy, try with 12 aliens, on the layout invasion-xtrem1 on atcs :p
(it's also an add-on for tremulous server)

he asked for single player, it's 2 single player mod (and multiplayer mod too)

like i said, it's 2 MODS, so he will maybe think these mods are shit if he don't like them, but no trem is shit :)

edit : if you want train, the Wrath Newbie Training Server can help you i think ^^

To be absolutely clear: Tremulous does NOT have a single player mode.

The main reason for this is that the unique abilities of each alien class, and the real-time strategy elements of the game make programming bots a very difficault challenge. There have been attempts to create bots such as those in the mods that BigGamer95 posted, but none of these can simulate a real multiplayer Tremulous game.

Umm.. just to let you know, "shooting hordes of stupids monsters" is indeed an accurate discription. David never said it was easy just that you shoot (true, unless you have psaw) hordes (true, there are lots) of stupid (true, all trembots are stupid, thats a fact) monsters (true, aliens are monsters.)

Its to bad we couldn't just implement npc scripting for each seperate type of possible set up and then have (for the aliens) randomly evolve into one of the set ups of that stage once they reach 5 evos.  But ah, were to lazy to implement scripting.

Correction, you're too lazy to implement scripting. I would, but I simply don't have the know-how.

Nor does anyone, considering the state of the art of AI as a whole isn't really very capable of doing this well enough to be worth the time involved.

Ender and Champion are going to work on the Tremfusion bots and make them smarter. Then, single player maps could be made using Tremfusion script support, for example by creating new map entities which do cool stuff.

Highly scripted single player maps with gameplay that's very different from a multiplayer game of Tremulous is obviously possible. Anything that resembles the gameplay of regular multiplayer Tremulous, but with bots, is not currently possible to a level beyond "target practice."

Well our bots are currently smart enough to rush the enemy base and kill the eggs/nodes, so they are already quite a bit more challenging than trembot.

It's not released yet, but Ender is setting up a Tremfusion bot server. You can check out the code here:
