Tremulous on my external hard drive...help! (Resolved)
« on: December 26, 2008, 09:53:28 pm »
I just got an external hard drive, and I installed Tremulous on it, and it will load, but when I click "Get New List" for the servers I get nothing, unless it's going to take an extremely long time. Any ideas?

Probably your firewall.
Make sure it knows to allow trem to access the net.

Tremulous works fine on my computer though, I only have the server problem when I try to open it from the external hard drive.

It might not find the servercache.dat file, since your external drive does not follow the Windows personal folder naming convention. In other words: it might try to find the file in different places. But, that is just a guess. On Win Vista it might have to do with the whole virtual dir and execution prevention stuff.

Hmm, I just checked and it definitely has the servercache.dat file...so maybe I'm just not waiting long enough for the servers to come up?

i think what Bissig is saying is that tremulous might be looking for the servercache.dat file in the wrong location. Tremulous is only a little over 100mbs and it might be worth it to just install it on your C drive or talk to someone smart on how to change the location of your base folders

Make sure it's internet and not local  ;) I've run Trem off usb sticks on both Vista and xp before and I've never had any trouble.

I did install it straight to the external hard drive. Haha, I made sure it was on Internet    ;D  But I still don't know what's up. Oh, and I do have it on my normal computer, on which it works fine.

Try copying over the C:\program files\Tremulous folder to your external hard drive and giving it another shot. Something may have screwed up when you installed it on the external hard drive the first time.

I'm just grasping in the dark at the moment. I have no clue why it's not working tbh.
