Error with ui_menuFiles

OK, so I have ui_menuFiles set to "ui/xylo_menus.txt" (different file, with different menus) in order to develop my HUD's interface. Problem is, when I connect to a server with this variable set, I wind up with the fatal error message:

recursive error after: unable to find ui/xylo_menus.txt, using default

So, is that variable affected by pure servers? If so, how do I use a different ui/menus.txt than the one in the data PK3?

I woulda posted in my other thread, but that would (A) be triple-posting, which I just might get banned for, and (B) it would make me look impatient, demanding, and immature. I figured this issue has enough difference to it to be able to have it's own topic. Mods, if you think otherwise, feel free to merge.

name it .cfg or the pure check won't let you load it.
