My name is Cosmonaut, and i LOVE building. I can't get enough of it! I have developed strategical defense methods that people have actually grown a liking to! On one of my favorite servers today, i was playing when someone mentioned they didn't enjoy spending time with their family. I threw in my two cents and said to enjoy every moment with their family, because my father died 6 months ago, and i have a lot of regrets. Now, this is what drove me off the server, they restricted me from "Grieving". I have not once in my life met anyone that restricts people from grieving.
After this scenario, i want to find a server that allows me to build, and if having any troubles, seek a bit of guidance or venting from the casuals on the server.

DretchStorm is the way to go.
-
I'll give it a try
-
There are douches everywhere, but DS is decent enough.
-
They're very resistant to any kind of insult. You have to personally insult the admin's own mother several times before they take notice of you.
-
Its not showing up on the list, is there a trick to finding servers?
-
nevermind i found it... it does not have the build points i was hoping for though :(
The skittles map has everything a workaholic like me would want. 999 BP and no sudden death till 80 minutes!

Speaking from personal experience there??

You know, what you are looking for is builder heaven, and very few servers offer that kind of experience, aside from the laggy ones with 999 build points. uBP server has unlimited build points if you are interested.
-
i'll give anything a try!
-
I cant seem to try it for some reason. what does UBP stand for?
-
::) Guess.
Unlimited build points!!!!
-
under builders paradise?
-
I honestly have no clue, i just got done checking the servers and none looked like it would match
-
under builders paradise?
Because you seem unable to read small text, I'll try large.
Unlimited Build Points
-
ooh..... i feel..... (insert word here)..
But i still can't find a server that goes by that name :(
-
1. Go to http://tremmaster.quakedev.net/
2. Press Ctrl+F and type "Unlimited BP" without the quotations.
3. ?????
4. Profit.
Also, if you are mega lazy open Trem, drop the console and type "/connect 174.132.18.155:30720" also without quotations.

a fellow /b/tard?
I found the problem, i did not see the "Load new list" option. the problem is that the sudden death timer is worse than the others!

Not every meme is restricted to 4chan... :police:
Also if you don't like the servers out there, you might want to look into making your own.

Trust me, i've tried making my own server, but there is only one location for tremulous and that's in program files. I checked application data for the required folder and files but it is not there, there is absolutely no tremulous folder there. i think my computer is restricting me from making a server :(
-
try using a more up to date client
and the ???? // profit meme isn't even originally from 4chan

Any ideas where i can find this up-to-date client?
and i'd also like to know the origin of the profit meme too
-
the meme originally came from south park, if i remember correctly, and spread to somethingawful.
try http://www.tremfusion.net/ for an update client.
-
Server down.
-
*sigh*
When will the server be back up?
-
Any other clients at all? in a zip file perhaps?
-
is this client (http://releases.mercenariesguild.net/) do you talk ?
-
It's a placeholder page and everything is broken into bits and pieces that i have no idea what to do with.
-
any advice?

Click on the client area, then the folder of the operating system you use.
I'm assuming you use Windows, in which case you use the stuff in this (http://releases.mercenariesguild.net/client/win32/) folder. Place the DLL files in C:/WINDOWS/system32 (most likely -- if you don't see that or it doesn't work, post what version of Windows you're using). Run the exe file. You can rename your current Tremulous binary to something like trem-old.exe, and tremulous.x86.exe to tremulous.exe .
If you're trying to create your own server, you also need win32 tremded (http://releases.mercenariesguild.net/tremded/tremded.x86.exe).
This (http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=3586.0) is apparently a good guide, just use MG's client instead of TJW's. If you're not trying to make the server public, don't worry about port forwarding and all that stuff.
You'll need a QVM, too. I personally like Rezyn's QVM (http://mysite.verizon.net/johne/rezynqvm.html) (the specific download that you need is this (http://mysite.verizon.net/johne/rezynqvm/Rezyn_game_QVM_1_1_0_qvm.zip)) but most people like Lakitu7's QVM (http://projects.mercenariesguild.net/projects/lakitu7-qvm) (specific download: linky (http://projects.mercenariesguild.net/attachments/download/50/game.qvm)), which is more "vanilla" and is the standard of Tremulous servers.
EDIT: If you are trying to boost the build points, you can use the cvars g_humanBuildPoints and g_alienBuildPoints, which you can set in server.cfg.
For example:
g_humanBuildPoints 99999
g_alienBuildPoints 99999
This would set the build points of both teams to '99999.'
Note: if you want to set up your own, full-blown, public, and hopefully popular server, it's recommended to rent a Tremulous server rather than run it from home (unless you have a really good set up).

I am currently using Windows Vista, although the system32 folder is present, i copied and pasted the DLL files in their like you said. Now when you say rename my current tremulous binary, do you mean the tremulous.x86.exe? Rename that to tremulous.exe? Every time i double click it i get a
"couldn't load defailt.cfg. Copy console log to clip board?"
Sorry to be a pest like this, but i have not done anything like this before.
-
yes just rename "tremulous.x86.exe" to "tremulous.exe" ::)
-
getting the same error
-
let me try and recap. Extracted said files, placed them in system 32, renamed the tremulous application to tremulous.exe.
What did i do wrong?
WHERE DID I GO WRONG!?
WHYYYY!
(seriously... what did i do wrong)

I thought that was what i was supposed to do
-
try reading the readmes or the documentation and not just guessing what you're supposed to do (which is very, very wrong)
-
Have you to move the new "tremulous.exe" in the directory "tremulous" ? ...i don't understand why you talk about system32..

he said to move only the dll files to system32 (and even that's wrong, even though it'll work, you should put all the files in your tremulous directory)
-

Ah, sorry. :(
I'm curious, though: why? Why not put them into system32, so that you don't have to install them later if you go for a program that needs them? From Googling, it looks like the proper way to install DLL files (on a XP machine) would be to put them into C:/WINDOWS/system32 .

Well... i did what kevlarman said and extracted the files into my tremulous folder but i keep getting the same errors, so don't worry.
-
In system32 they can be used by all software. Windows lacks a package management system so when you have two things that need the same DLL they will probably want different versions of it, and so one or both will break.
-
I thought "couldn't load default.cfg" means that it can't find data-1.1.0.pk3... Do you have the pk3 files from default tremulous install in tremulous/base/?
-
"Couldn't find defaults.cfg" means the client is in the wrong place more often than not.
For some reason, I have enough faith in him to think that he wouldn't delete data-1.1.0.pk3 throughout this.
