Title: Nano! [final]
Post by: Ingar on May 25, 2007, 11:40:54 am
Are you the kind of player that does not like large maps like Pulse or Procyon? Do you get lost on Archnid or Niveus? You think ATCS is too big? Now there is Nano!. This is a map I created to see if it is possible to create a small and playable map in a short amount of time.

* [edit]
Released the final version. Added some bling, some huge fans, and soda vending machines.
http://ingar.satgnu.net/tremulous/files/map-nano.pk3 (http://ingar.satgnu.net/tremulous/files/map-nano.pk3)

* [edit]
Released Beta 4. This update fixes a lot of texturing errors, the stage triggers and removes the tower camper spot.

* [edit]
Beta 3 is available for testing: this release features completely new bases and I want them tested before I make a final release.
Also, please verify if the tower isn't too overpowered, especially in stage 3.

* [edit]
I actually released Beta 2: slightly larger bases, two small outpost rooms, slightly wider door arches in some places and a few details.

This map gets my seal of serious spam approval. It's small, it's pretty and it looks deadly. Running on SatGNU!

Ingar, I absolutely love your work. Please keep on making such brilliant maps.  :D

Post by: David on May 25, 2007, 03:04:42 pm
I love this map.
It totally rules, at least for small games.
The big tower is very uncreation like, and the whole thing has a feel of what-uncreation-should-have-been-ness
3v3 or even 5v5 clan matches would be good here.

The one problem I can see is the bases suck.  The aliens can build a decent base, with lots of good trapper spots, the humans will be shot by goons though.  (Admittedly I didn't get a change to build as humans, so they may have some good bases)

Also, there is no real alternate base spots, which all helps to lend this map to small organised teams.

Also, for the server owners you don't want to add this as it wont work when the server is full:
Code: [Select]
if numClients < 10
nano-alpha1
can be added in the map rotation so it only plays when there aren't too many people around.

Nice work.

i have 1 beef with your map

the weird little thing in the middle bottom.

turn it into a big red button.

make the skybox instant death.

anyone who touches the big red button = instant death

(im thinking like rdizzles test map, cannon. you touch the trigger and before you know it youre 500 feet in the air.)

that would be l33t and would show all those curious noobs to stay in line and fear differents.)

One thing i didnt like about your map was the base :S they were too small to be effective, and games tended to be one sided. So maybe larger bases?

upper tower is far too overpowered like you identified.

An egg with two acid tubes are basically invincible when they are behind the grate thing as the only way to get up is jetpack, but you wont be able too with the tubes, and you'd have to shoot quite a couple of times to disable the tubes to allow you to jet up to the egg, which is far too powerful. You should nobuild it.

apart from that smexy. The lights are great, and the new base layout is very good.

The thing is, the grates should open up on stage 3, but I can't test it on my own.
I'm also looking for a way to make that camping spot accesable through some stairs,
but I wanted this beta out to test the new bases first.

If it doesn't work out I'll just remove it, or make it nobuild like you suggested.

The only reason I downloaded now rather than waiting to join the dev server.

Ingar: I would, but I have no previous builds of Nano in my base folder. D: I tried moving my textures folder in to a different subfolder, though, and that did nothing.

EDIT: This situation is quite impossible, as I can join the development server running Nano B2, but it's no where to be found in my base folder..

/g_humanStage2threshold 0 and /g_humanStage3threshold 0 (similar for aliens) for trigger_stage.
The round corners look nice, but when i build on those, the buildings fall through :(.

Sorry if I am waking this thread from its slumber inappropriately, but how far away is the final release of nano? I would really like to see this map go into 1.2. Furthermore, khalsa's post does make that sound a very real possibility. I would hate to see this map be forgotten simply for lack of a [final] tag.

Yep, i also have such opinion... but its boring. =\ I have some servers in favorites where still running nano-b2/b4. I dont wanna every time delete some maps while changing servers. Or download nano-b2/b4 when some smart admin giving !map nano-b2 command =\
May be u can tune shaders/scripts and re-release map? I understand its boring and lame way, but... thats why i always make different versions of shaders/etc for each map release stage.

UPD: Yes, removing all other nano! versions from 'users' and 'trem/base' folders work. But I still think about possible changes i described above and wait for them. =D

Post by: Ingar on December 07, 2009, 04:36:32 pm
It's not a problem when joining a server (at least not with gpp1), only when loading maps locally.

The problem is tha a local server loads, for example, both map-nano.pk3 and map-nano-beta4.pk3,
even when you play beta4 it will still use the shader file from the final release because that pk3 is loaded first.
(this is the case for any file, not just shader files).

When you join a server the client should only load those pk3's the server has, so it will load
beta4 or final (not both) and everything will be allright. I did a test with a LAN tremded and it works fine.

Besides that, it is my less-than-subtle way to tell server owners they should update their maps.
