Are bug-fix patches for 1.1 accepted?
« on: January 10, 2009, 01:35:08 pm »

Hey, I'm new to Tremulous. Currently I'm far a better coder than I am a Tremulous-er ;D Anyhooo, I have noticed a few glitches and am considering to patch them up. But, as it looks now, the SVN doesn't have a bugfix branch for 1.1 (only a tag for it on trunk which I assume is the to-be 1.2 version)? So I wonder, are bug-fix patches for 1.1 accepted? And also where to post them (Sourceforge or do you have a private tracker?). The bugs I've found on my Vista installation that I'm thinking of fixing are:

1. Sorting on ping in the server list is broken.
2. Brightness value is not remembered (or more specifically, it is remembered but not applied on startup).

Thanks for any information.

/D

Grab one of the third party clients that are floating around. They fix these problems.

http://bugzilla.icculus.org/buglist.cgi?query_format=specific&order=relevance+desc&bug_status=__open__&product=Tremulous&content= for bug fixes / other stuff.
Also http://patches.mercenariesguild.net/ for patches that never going to get into 1.2.
The patch tracker also has stuff on it to make the latest code work with 1.1 clients / servers.
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

There are no further official releases of Tremulous planned until 1.2, so a bugfix branch would be kind of redundant, if I understand your meaning correctly.
If the bug still exists in trunk though, a patch would be very welcome. I can tell you the first one is certainly already fixed, the second I'm not so sure about.

The only releases actively updated but also compatible with 1.1 servers are unofficial, but there are some quite good ones around. The one I use (and helped develop) is at http://releases.mercenariesguild.net/client/, while other people like http://www.tremfusion.net/trac/wiki/Releases

Sweet, a coder. Welcome to the forums, hope you'll have a fun time playing and learning Tremulous.

Anywho, yes as mentioned by Kaleo and others, there is no "official" patch/bugfixes for tremulous, but there are user-made clients that fixes some o the problems. Try searching up TremFusion, Mg Client, TJW's Client or such and see which one is best for you. There might not be just "one" client thats the best, because all the clients deliver something different then the other.

Anyways, hopes that helps. Cheers.
