(Audience keeps mumbling and moving chairs for some time. The room turns silent when somebody turns off the light.)
Good evening, gentlemen and of course the few ladies that found their way to the TremCon, I now want to talk to you about a few tactical issues often encountered, but before that, want to introduce myself: My name is Zacharias, I am a Tremulous player for some years now, my ingame names were "zybork", "something special", "nobody", "a loser", now it is "a real darling" - yes I admit I am "one of those". I don't have fast reactions and the such, but I do commit the sin of thinking while playing, so I, als already mentioned, want to discuss some tactical issues.
(I turn on the projector)
Here, you can see a well known map, Niveus, with the only formidable human base possible in the big room of the default human base location, you see the reactor standing in the trunk of the tunnel with that nifty red light on the other side of the room, right in front of the armoury, that cannot be sniped because of that.
On the next slide, you see one telenode right next to the armoury, a medisation in front of it, and you can see turrets in front of the base and next to the other telenode that is actually placed on the platform on top of the tunnel. Altough the base in the plantroom is in some way better, it is a bit tricky to move there, especially if humans lack teamwork as they usually do.
On the next slide you can now see an attacking tyrant, and here you realize, how valuable the turrets on top are: The rant literally runs into a grid of hammering turrets, and the humans defending the base have a perfect line of fire as well.
On this slide, you cann see a more dangerous threat: An advanced goon that tries to snipe the reactor. Unfortunately, there a players covering that goon with their bodies, even more unfortunate, those damnfools are on the human team and make it impossible for the others to chase it because they block their line of fire as well as their movements.
This slide now shows you something interesting: Usually, people camp, this is, they stay near the base and try not to get hit. But this is "camping", not "defending", and miraculously, this chainsuit here actually does defending: He runs into the goons barbs to cover the reactor, triggers the medkit, and chases that damn bug, saving the builder valuable time.
On the next slide, you realize that meanwhile the alien team is rushing: They throw in everything they have, and here you can see a --censored-- who tries to luci a mara that managed to jump INSIDE the base. As a result, on this slide, you see that reactor is smoking without that the mara even had time to hit it, for its claws are much weaker then a lucifer charge...
(Somebody from the audience) Could... could I see the slide with the mara again? I want to see how the mara got into the base!
Sorry, this is not possible, I have to go on, and on this slide you see the room full of tyrants.
(That guy again) Hey! Wait a second, you are actually PLAYING???
Yes, i have a good ping on this server, but some don't, and this, TCP/IP and the use of hitscan-weapons in Trem makes the server lag as hell.
(Somebody else) OMFG!
On the next slide, you see, that those damnfools who just kept running around have been teamkilled by people who actually have a brain, and that the tyrants are down as well, just about time, because the reactor needs to be repaired, the respective damnfools will sure as hell NOT spawn builder and help him, and the other guys can't help repair, because thanx to our luci-noob, the armoury is down.
(Someone) I don't believe it! For god's sake, which server is that???
(I shrug my shoulders.) I don't know, some server, but - hey, funny, "humans win". I bet some leet ran into the usually completely unguarded alien base, took down all the eggs, and that's the result. Sure as hell there was no granger, no remote eggs, and no thinking in the alien team either.
(That guy from before) I still don't believe it! How can that be?
I don't know. Luck...?
