Hydra
« on: February 20, 2009, 02:14:36 am »
A concept sketch for a rare alien form I nicknamed 'Hydra'.

With all the lighting problems and evolutionary inconsistencies (e.g. only 2 eyes) I thought I'd just post it as it is and make a new one if I wanted to do better. :)

Background:

Mythological monster names seem to be a running theme and I chose the name Hydra simply because it looks snake like and the front limbs might be confused with extra heads. Also, it seems like the name was the working title for the Basilisk before the chicken-snake name was picked (which personally I think suits it better). I wasn't going for any strict correlation with the name (myth = reality? Coincidence!) but feel free to imagine what it could do. :]

Hydra as in conforming to water as a power source of some sort to the animal.

it looks cool, maybe more detail would be nice.

where goes the hummie flash when she eats 'em?

l33t! It looks like something that would move very quickly underwater (assuming it can move it's legs alongside it's body to become streamlined). All those sharp limbs and the long body suggests that it can attach itself to you like a snake while it noms ur meats. Something slimy and wriggly that easily bores through soft human flesh, like a chestburster.

So you guys want background eh?

[Background added]

Yes it does have 6 limbs and that thing over it's head is the other front leg (off the ground).

The human flesh goes in it's mouth :p And I didn't want to put too much detail into it because A) It was only an experiment and B) I wanted it to look small.

I like your interpretation Taiyo.uk :D

Edit: I might update/neaten this at some point but it's more likely I'll start anew. Perhaps I'll give the Chimera a shot, since A) It looks stupid :D and B) it must also have been a working title.

I'm not sure of that myself to be honest. Despite original intentions to make it large, I ended up trying to make it look small. Now I've no idea what size I want it to be.

What size do you want it to be? :D

Rantsized ftw.
OR
the last size, if redsky can make it super-detailed.
Actually, I can. But i would need lots of time and the model itself.

Any chance of actually seeing this ingame?   ???  8)

Looks nice. Bares resemblance to praying mantis imo.
Also afaik 'Hydra' was ordginal name for the Basilisk and 'Chimera' for the Marauder.

Am I the only one who thinks this is an anorexic dretch who got stretched too far?

Anyways, goodjob, looks like some sort of freakish snake.
