Where are my... files?
« on: February 21, 2009, 09:58:53 pm »
Hello,

I have some weird problems.

First of all, I can't see any servers, the "Get New List" button doesn't work fine for me. I can't search any servers. The funny thing is that I can also see my "favourite servers". Sometimes I can get new list, sometimes not. (More often, no.)

Secondly, I formated my comp, and I decided to put my tremulous client to D:\ disk because I want all games there. Everything works fine, but I can't find my demos and screenshots. Last time when i had my tremulous client on C:\  disk demos and other files were in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\etc\etc... Now I can't find this folder (I enabled option "see hidden folders"). I searched my whole computer to find a single "test" demo and guess what, there was no demo like that. I can open screenshots and demos manually in HUD.

What's wrong ? I don't want install tremulous on C:\ again... I have windows xp.

What client are you using?
The default 1.1 is really old, and doesn't use the Docs and Settings thing.  You can get a newer client from http://releases.mercenariesguild.net/client/

As for get new list, I would guess firewall.  Have you added exceptions etc so tremulous can access the web?
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

Do you have any issues accessing http://master.tremulous.net/ ?
Its the same list on the same server, just accessed over http instead of q3 stuffs.

May I suggest instead of using the shitty File Shack service, please use Photobucket and use the [img] feature in the forums for posting screenies? ;D

Also, have you atleast tried other clients like TremFusion or MG like David suggested to see if they can help solve the problem?

Well then, Mister Arch, you have not tried a TJW's client lately.
Not that I have.

Well, yes, the TJW client can use cl_guidserveruniq.

Sayer, are you on a university connection or something?
Any kind of shared connection may have packet detectors that stop packets from the master server. Try connecting directly to an IP with /connect.

As for the screenshots and demos, do you mean you can not view them with the Oticz HUD viewers?
If so, that's a pretty normal issue when transferring installations and their settings, or, it is for me.
Try uninstalling and reinstalling the HUD, if I recall, the uninstall cfg will reset all cvars related to the menu files, and should fix your issue.

I am in my home, I have ADSL connection for my own computer. I can /connect with any server, but I prefer to see them on my list.

I can view them in console and in HUD. I have about 50 demos but I don't know where those files saving. That's my problem. :)

Try /fs_ (tab) then check in all paths you see base/screenshots and base/demos. If they are not there, then they could be in other mod folders.

When you are having troubles with the master, can you connect to dev.tremulous.net server?  It's hosted on the same server.

Lies!

Also, the first word out of all of your mouths to help this kid find his screenies should have been "fs_homepath"; +1 to Killer re: lost files.

@Slayeru: I'm not sure about your Get New List. Most clients, perhaps even TJW's, will give console messages when it is connecting to the master server to get the list; hit the tilde key (on most keyboards, to the left of the number "1" and above tab) after you click and see if it reports the number of servers returned and queried, or how many of those time out when serverstatus is requested. If the master server returns ~200 servers (give or take a couple dozen depending on the day) and yet you don't get the full list you're looking for under the "Internet" heading, then the master server is talking to you perfectly fine but you can't get ahold of the game servers due to connectivity or firewall issues. Try to isolate whether the problem only exists with a certain port, time of day, etc. to help diagnose the issue.
