Stamina in inventory of humans.
« on: March 30, 2009, 03:07:50 pm »
Humans should slowly, when damaged. It was very impressive for gameplay. Humans can hit enemy from far, so aliens have better change to kill him when damaged. With lower energy meter humans ran/sprint and wen really slow. Player humans should also took stamina from base instead of medikit.

Please think about the idea. It looks very great, but it has large changing in gameplay. Also I don't played as alien many time.

So lets try again. Default human will took medi kit from base. It was great, but restores full hp. I will say, it was better if humans additionally will be slower when damaged. In  this situation sometimes better is using stamina than medi kit. We can restores live or get ran.

It seems pretty balanced now, I don't think slowing humans down as they get injured (that is what you meant, correct?) will help.

In all seriousness: that would be a good idea (if it's what I think your idea is, anyway), in most other games, but not in this one. If humans walked more slowly when they were damaged, they would stand no chance, at all, against aliens. Aliens can already catch them easily.

Not if you apply it to the aliens, likewise. It will definitely get some fast kills.

If aliens slow, as well, then they'll have absolutely no chance at a distance.

Humans have more than enough problems when damaged already. They can't reheal until running half the map to reach base, and frequently with low ammo. Making them even weaker when out of base doesn't help to promote human attacks.

Yes. I was thought about a injured.

I think that it wasn't better game system to implement this conception. Tremulous are seriously only one game in that type. There's also one freeware(not FOSS) game like Tremulous, but i think Tremulous is better.

The whole thing?

I don't think the medikit needs altered in any way.  The medikit is moderated a lot as it is, what with only one use, accelerating effect, healing to full HP from HP at use, and only getting another medikit by using a functional medipad to full health.  It really only ends up helping humans who survive one good fight and can live long enough to get its full effect, and even then all it ends up doing is giving them enough HP to take a few hits while running back to base.

Humans should get an adrenaline boost once they spot anything bigger than mara, which would give them 2x more stamina, 2x speed and an ability to wallwalk.

It wouldn't hurt that it didn't stop healing if you get some minimal damage during the healing proccess, tho. Like getting a bullet from a teammate as example. I also think the rest is fine. Starting from 0 removes any possible instant-healing infight exploits.

Lol, sounds more like you're turning the human into an alien than giving it a "boost."  That aside, I don't think giving humans an adrenaline boost upon seeing a +mara and up would be a good idea.  With a few exceptions, I think Tremulous is balanced enough as it is and just requires humans to use teamwork.

Well if humans get some hands then I will settle for that >_>. Other than that I think the new stamina changes will do more harm than good.

Have the option to buy a stamina boost that replaces your medkit. For a (very) limited time, you would have infinite stamina.

Or just go with the adrenaline idea and regen or maintain stamina high for short amounts of time (seconds) when particular stuff happens. Like proximity to certain aliens or structures, getting seriously hurt, having teammates die near you etc.

Because where realism is concerned I'd rather go for the adrenaline approach instead of a self-controlled stamina boost.

So long as there's a bit of a motion blur to mimic the effect of slow motion, and to funlily (a bit) the effect of the infinite stamina.

Alien taunts should induce a heavy breathing sound for humans. I'd be scared. Perhaps the tiniest bit of blur, too.

There should be a dark tint on your screen, or a looped breathing sound that gets louder as you get hurt more. Perhaps blur, as well.

If anything, I'd like to have a blur when my health get's critically low. Also one idea is to increase your stamina just a little when you reach this critical health. Just to simulate an adrenaline boost.

Humans should get an adrenaline boost once they spot anything bigger than mara, which would give them 2x more stamina, 2x speed and an ability to wallwalk.

Actually, I had some notion of some kind of scary orchestra cue to scare the heck out of you whenever you saw a rant.  I realized it could be abused, though, so I canned it.

How blurry should it be? Like full blown DCotE style Jack-shat-in-his-pants blur or like a little blur around the screen? And wouldn't motion blur slow down the game for users (Like me) with low end systems? I'm wondering if theres different ways of doing blur, because I once used just a little bit of motion blur in a Quake source port and my FPS dropped to 2 frames. Can the Quake 3 engine handle screen distortion to mimic a kind of motion blur instead of the traditional way?

Actually, I like the breathing and the blur idea. I don't know how it would effect my PC, as I can run FEAR Combat on medium, and the likes, but I like the idea. One thing Trem needs, IMO, is more work in the sound department.

It would be brilliant to determine visibility for aliens by power/weariness. Also, humans can take boost, to be faster, but it also decreases hidden possibility. Walls can also be helpful to hide.
