2/5, the beginning's pretty good, but as soon as the vocals come in it loses most positive qualities. They're technicians, not musicians.

Little Richard - Good Golly Miss Molly (live); it's amazing how different this song sounded live.

I have to agree with Whales here on that Dream Theater track. Not only not my style, but it just doesn't have any charm to it. Or maybe the lack of charm is just it not being my style. I like to listen to music, not math.

5/5 for Little Richard's live performances. That guy was (and probably still is) the best. He has the best expressions and his voice is fantastic.

Here's a live track from a little known New Zealand band in the early 70s. I hope I don't offend anyone with my "hippie" music.

Human Instinct - Railway and Gun

Quote
"Maori guitarist Billy TK was the Jimi Hendrix of the Southern Hemisphere. He obviously took the lessons of the Master to heart and, on his albums with Human Instinct, took Hendrix's psychedelic approach to absurd new extremes. Not necessarily the greatest listening experience, but definitely the farthest "out" of any guitar psyche you're likely to ever hear. This album is one of the most important chapters of rock from that era."

Since I'm into blues, I can't give this song rate other than 5, though the guitar is a bit too "aggressive" for me ;)

Since we are in blues stuff, Eric Clapton - Cocaine

Actually, I disagree, Portnoy is a technician and should NEVER SING EVER AGAIN. But all of the have studied music and music theory. They are professional musicians. That is their life.

(Joining the fun)

A bit Kingston Wall-esque, quite nice. I dislike the falsetto singing in the end though. 3/5

One of the best jazz records in history in my opinion. Awesome playing, they sound like the rhythm is screwing up constantly, but then they come back even tighter.

As much as I liked Firefly I would hardly even qualify that as a song :)

^ 3/5. Would chalk it up as a 5/5 if anyone was counting, considering that that's damn near completely out of what I'd be going hunting for, in terms of music.

Die Warzau - Bliss

One my favorites, kinda unfortunate that it's the only song like it that they've done afaik. Waiting on their next album still, seems like its progress is kinda stalling though.

Got the song myself, too. 5/5, simply beautiful.

Since we're going for classics, how about a classic Zappa song?

1/5, a horrible version of the original.

Classical, then.

Great ascension starting at 4:13, ending with some haunting chords at 4:28. Woah.

Anyways the other two movements are worth checking out too. The second movement is really beautiful. Overall a very nice piano concerto.

amz: 4/5 I love that version, but I don't like it when the rock stuff starts taking over too much.  Speaking of Carol of the Bells, George Winston has a great piano version too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JYrOMK1aDA
meisseli: 4/5 <3, some of it sounds too "out there" for my taste, though.
