Uhh... i dunno how much y'all get this... but...
« on: May 22, 2009, 01:41:18 am »
ok, i've been trying to help my good friend on Tremulous named Bixboy get a HUD, and he is on the shitty client that is provided through the apple website to play Tremulous on his mac. i have a mac as well... so i was especially curious when i found out that Y'ALL DON'T HAVE THE MAC INSTALL FOR TREMULOUS ON YOUR DOWNLOAD PAGE ANYMORE!!!!!!! WTF? he needs that download link, and it is no longer there. the closest thing to it is the .zip link that you have so generously provided, that does not have the Alias to it.... >.< can you please tell me 1). why have you removed the Mac download from your page, and 2). why does the .zip file not have an alias on it? thank you for telling me... sorry if this looks like spam, but i wanna know. and i don't wanna hear any shit about Mac. it is not the Mac's fault that there is no download for tremulous on the site anymore. it is y'all's fault for removing it.

wow... that really helps me... can you tell me why? (and also, who has the power to remove that kind of thing anyway? that download's been there almost a year and just disappears?)

First of all, I'm a Windows user, so I don't know what you mean by "alias," but if you want to replace the Tremulous client for Mac, here is a page on clients from Trem-Servers.com - there's a download link for a Mac client there.  I hope this fixes your problem, if not, just post that it didn't help, as well as more info I can use to help.  As for why the link was removed, I have no clue.  In fact, I didn't know there even was a Mac installer before.
Click the below userbars for more info about their associated programs.

From what I've seen posted about TJW's site lately, the mac download may have been removed because of TJW's site downtime, or the part where he says:

WARNING
This page is obviously old and outdated; It is left here for archival purposes only. I do not recommend using these binary files

@OP: You can still DL the 20060704.dmg from tjw's site, just like you always could. Personally I would recommend a slightly more up-to-date client. If you asked the question a little more intelligently and did a little more research, you should have little or no problem installing Trem on a Mac and adding a HUD. Either get an app to unzip those files, or just rename them accordingly, so they work on your friend's machine.

I believe the three most "current" clients would be the Trem-servers client, the }MG{ client and the Tremfusion client. Also, iirc, the Mac DL was never on the main Trem site. The Mac build has always been an unsupported port done by tjw, for which "official" Trem dev took absolutely no responsibility (since one could always install one of the supported operating systems, or just properly apply a universal binary).

Lastly, if your friend already has a Trem client, why does he need to DL another one? Just apply the smexy HUD to the crappy client and patch the many lacking capabilities of the existing client.

For those who aren't familiar with Mac, I believe an alias is somewhat equivalent to a shortcut on Windows.

Download from Apple site still works for me, so here it is:

1. Get the mac client from Apple (v1.1 = rev755)
2. Update the default mac client (Tremulous.app) with one of the following:
    - Trem-servers (a bit outdated but rock solid)
    - TremFusion (Trem fork with active development)
    - }MG{ client (supported by Trem devs)
3. Choose an HUD from this catalog. Install instruction depends on the HUD you choose but for mac they almost all go into "/Users/<your_username>/Library/Application\ Support/Tremulous/base"

eh... thanks for the Trem-servers client. next time i see my friend on Trem, i'll tell him this thread and he can get his new client from there. what happens to him is that when he tries to download it onto his Macbook laptop, it doesn't let him add/remove stuff from the Base file. and yes i do know how to unzip files on that stuff... he just does not lol. thank you for the help. sorry if i didn't describe well enough for y'all to do enough for me, but it seems some of you understood.

[/topic=off] and sorry for the usage of words like y'all and ain't. i am a southern hick at the fullest... but don't worry, i have a 98 in English... i just don't put that into practice here...[/topic]

Who does.
You only dumb by the way you speak in the eyes of a stereo typer.

Now, to address a possible issue.
The darwin kernel being a POSIX and SUSv3 compliant hybrid unix kernel,
It employs filesystem and OS level permission systems per user.
This includes read, write, delete, append, create dir ect ect ect.
Just tell him to make sure he has admin permissions for his account to modify the file and directories that trem uses.
a standard user shouldnt be allowed to modify system files or program files.

I love how everyone has a "friend" with a mac, like their embarrassed to admit having one :).
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

I'd rather hear from people afraid to admit they have one than from people who are Mac activists and try to convince everyone to get one.

Cause they use AIX PowerPC is an IBM architecture anyway.
I was just wondering cause my mac is a G3 350mghz with like either 64 or 128mb of ram.
It does good to run X on debian i figured if i installed all the libs and crap it would be about the same as running it on free BSD wouldnt it? or are there kernel level args that cant be handled by a version 7 kernel?

I mean its a piece of shit and linux doesnt work well on it.
And im thinking if i install AUX all i would have to do is port the dependancies over to it unless trem passes kernel level args that AUX cant handle. but it shouldnt be a problem as people run it on FreeBSD

on PPC? I use Linux on PPC frequently. I wish you luck finding a copy of A/UX, less finding a machine than can run said copy. Or a machine that can do OpenGL that is compatible with A/UX. Remember, A/UX was designed as a server OS.

A/UX != AIX.

* bacon665 bangs head on desk
AUX was only 68k
i was thinking of system 7 which they give away for free and was the first OS ported to powerPC
i would put the download link but it wouldnt show anyways unless maybe i put spaces : /
http: // download. info. apple. com /Apple_Support_Area /Apple_Software_Updates /English-North_American /Macintosh /System /Older_System /System_7.5_Version_7.5.3/

I still find it hard to believe its only around 25MB that was frikken huge for the time.

you: I know where to purchase the operating system. i would like to know if this products supports the IBM G3 processor
