Really now?  You honestly just banned two longstanding members (Thorn/PowerOverwhelming) of the community for filing a complaint against another member?  (A complaint that several other members of the community supported.)  Jesus fucking christ, here comes Survivor, the goddamn "thought police."  ()  Spew all the shit you want about this not being a democracy, I'ma still voice my opinion: If you're not going to ban Bacon665 for being an annoying dumbfuck, then you have no cause to ban Powa or Thorn because you find their posts annoying, either.

Is it honestly so hard to just fire off a PM expressing your irritation to a member that's upsetting you (or has a different viewpoint) rather than dropping the banhammer every fucking time someone has a differing opinion/approach to a situation?  Moderators are held to a higher standard because supposedly they keep the forums running smoothly, but here you go making waves... please* unban both Annihilation and Thorn.

It's a community that I associate with, and I find Thorn and Annihilaion to be enjoyable, crucial parts of it.

2. Yes, but the topic is the Tremulous forums, not my own dealing with asses. The Tremulous forums are not real life. The Tremulous forum also has far more asses than we will ever meet in our lives, and so calls for different methods of dealing with them.

I've always found it ridiculous that people always say crap like "Oh my god, you've banned one of the people who have been here for [years|ages|since the forum was young]." Longstanding membership is not the right to be an jerk and an ass.

I mean, seriously. The truth of the matter is that, assholes or not, we are *guests* on the Tremulous forums. The admins and moderators can do as they see fit. You don't like it, go somewhere else.

Also, Mercenaries Guild's forum is hardly focused on production. It's more like a smaller version of the old (Un-asshole-filled) Tremulous community. It's a far nicer place to be than here, but of course, you have to behave to be there.

It wasn't a complaint but a ban request, coming from one apparently supported by some. Note that I first checked bacon's posts and reported my findings that they weren't disturbingly bad but asked for information on what was so bad that it needed attention from the mods.
Then one of the developers posted linked to this thread on ban requests. The topic was locked and noone was banned.
Then annihilation opens a topic with the same goal and receives a 2 day post ban from me as, what I perceived, an obvious warning.
Then thorn, who i actually keep in touch with outside of trem on occasion, does it again after 2 locked topics about the same subject and receives a longer but still not permanent ban from me.
Do I have to line out how this will continue or why I do this? Ban request topics without reasons or explanations are getting locked if they aren't provided. Repeat offense garners the same response but with small post bans as warnings.

Stating your demand and whining when you don't get what you want is just plain silly. Then keep whining about something which you will still not be getting just makes things worse.

Just as a sidenote, I respect that my actions are being checked but this forum is not the playtoy of a small group, nor will one member be permanently removed without good reason. In general it is best that if you have problem with a person you contact that person directly or the mods by pm or irc and have it checked out.

They will serve their bans, bacon will not be banned without good reason.

That's good enough for me.  However, I'd like to request that this thread stay unlocked so other members can vent any similar frustrations with the situation... I noticed the poll has already begun to show that I was hardly the only one that disagreed with your bans.  (And I still disagree, I'm just not going to argue it further... I've said my piece on the matter.)

Unpopular decisions are made every day, things that people think should have or should not have been done. This obviously results in some strife and if you wish to discuss this this is fine by me.

I'll grant that request as long as the topic stays within reason and rules.  I cannot say what the other mods will do. Just remember that further appeals for this case have no use, more topics on banning or unbanning have no use either and might result in some form of punishment as well. Please contain it here.

Personally, the two day ban doesn't bother me.  I'll live without going 2 days posting here, since there really isn't anything worthwhile to talk about.

Really though, was it necessary?  To be honest, I don't even know much about the bacon person everyone appears to want banned and I didn't really care at all about him getting banned, I just thought all the huff and puff about him and a "ban thread" was amusing so I made a "rule thread."  Personally, if I was moderating, I would of just locked it and given a text warning, such as "this isn't funny like you think it is and if it continues small bans will be placed."  Instead of going instantly ban happy with your hammer.  I guess though, you just don't have the sense of humor we do.  Also, techincally my ban was for a "ban thread" which I did not make.  I made a rule thread.  

My advice to you survivor, lighten up.  You're definately the most reasonable mod around here, but do you really need to go throwing bans around off topic for something simple.  Anyone with half a brain knows off topic is a bowl of festering shit and shouldn't be taken seriously.  I also doubt ANYONE expected bacon to actually get banned because we put up a stupid poll.  At the very least, it lets us vent, and if bacon sees it it shows him how much the community disrespects him and he'll need to get a reality check to fix his attitude if he ever will.

Also, did you ban Yarou? As for not caring about getting him banned, then don't think about it. You expect me to be serious about my mod duties but to read minds over the internet is outside of my ability. I will react to what I see. I have a sense of humor, yet as stated I'm supposed to be some sort of example. Have your fun in another way which doesn't go against any rules or common sense and I won't interfere.

Certainly off-topic isn't a shining example of a good forum. And I'll admit that on occasion I may react harshly. Does this mean I should just let it go down the drain because it is already bad? Why have mods then. A developer intervened and locked. I continued the decision. As for showing bacon he should shape up, tell him that directly and guide him if you want. But taking a piss poor public stand against him earns no respect from me.

As for Yarou, I didn't even see the topic and wasn't the person to lock it and as far as I can see I he isn't banned and I wouldn't have banned him either. I'd probably have let that topic be handled by another mod anyway. There is after all more then one mod and in general when dealing with a thread no second mod interferes after action is taken. You'll also note that whenever I lock anything or ban anyone, even for short periods, I post. I've given up on complete explanations everytime because you can't please everybody but I feel I owe it to the forum to at least show who took the action.

There is 1 point I would like to make and that is the fact that this type of thread happens rarely. If threads asking for people to be banned were everywhere then I would agree with the banning of people who posted those threads. This kind of thing rarely happens so it seems a little unfair just to go banning anyone who makes a thread about banning someone else.

yarou isn't banned (a little surprising actually, he's been permabanned so many times i've lost count), if i did ban him (i was tempted) it would be for violating several rules, and if he had replaced survivor's name with someone who wasn't a mod, it would change nothing.

Well, then that seems a little ridiculous that Thorn and I can get banned for something and then another person not for repeating the same thing after seeing two blatant warnings.
