Tremulous Clan League?
« on: July 11, 2006, 03:58:55 am »
Hey, Im just wondering if there are any clans that would be interested in league play in tremulous.

When you are playing this game in the pubs, the teammates you get are hit or miss.  More often than not you get teams with deconners or just bad players in general.  This is where clan's come in.  In clans, you play with the same people and you get to know your team's strengths and weaknesses.

Ace07 and I are planning to start a clan, and we are wondering if any clans would be interesting in setting up matches.  This would be easier if there was some kind of clan league in place (or just a clan forum on this site).

The idea for the clan league would be to facilitate the clan matches between different clans and record who the winners are.  The first ladder in this league would be simple 5v5 matches between clans.  Three (3) games are played in the same map which is chosen by the challenging clan.  The teams alternate so that you don't always play Aliens or Humans.

If the defending team accepts the challenge, they get to choose what side they start playing (Aliens or Humans).  After each round it alternates.

Do you think that tremulous is ready for something like this?  I think it is about time we got some good competition going on in this game.

Definately!
It would be neat to have a site to track tremulous clan win/losses when this starts!

Started a thread about it a month ago... there were not enough responses to justify the amount of work it would take to set up... :(

Yeah.. might want to bring this up ingame to other people.... I figure if you can get it going good.. it will pick up after a while..
People will ask "so does your clan compete?".. and they say "compete how?" ... and you will know they suck...

I guess you can add a hard timelimit and decide the rule that :
- if one teams has no spawns left but the other still has some, that team loses
- if else, match is a draw and should be replayed.
urphy's rules of combat
8 ) Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy someone else to shoot at.
18 ) Make it too tough for the enemy to get in and you can't get out.

@ [db@]Megabite: We will see how it works.  Currently the idea is to not even make a site.  If we could use this forum it would require only a little bit of work to manage all of it.  If there is enough interest and some matches go down, then someone could work on an entire site that would organize it better.  For how small this thing will be, it just needs to be functional.  The fancy ribbons, streamers, and fireworks can be saved for later when more people are interested.  8)

It would be interesting to see if this works.  There technically could be enough players for it, but I don't know anything of the player statistics right now.  You really need quite a few players to get anything useful going.

OH WOW... thats nuts
YOU NEED A SITE... you need to put these results into a DB..
You need to track members of clans/clan activity by DB..

It will make ranking and other stats so much easier... don't screw yourself into a work overload by depending on a forum.. We do need a clan section.. but not to run a ladder on.

.. i made my suggestions in the other post.... did you want them here?

Yes, a DB would be needed at some point.  You could even piggyback on some other league site (www.teamwarfare.com) if you want.  For now, the problem is that we don't know if this is feasible.  Once enough clans show up and start joining then you can move up.

Why start big when you don't even know if it can work yet?

Yes, just move your suggestions in here.  I don't want to get into an argument, but we don't even know how many clans we have yet.  It doesn't make sense to go all out until we get some support from some clans.

.... I can set a db system up in like.. 10 min.. it doesn't really take anything.. PHPMYADMIN..... or even access.. just export sql when you get a server to host the site on..

Its not about going big/going all out.. its about thinking ahead.

Here is what i said in the other thread.. i'll delete it from there so things dont get cluttered =

Quote from: "PIE"
... You need to make sure there is an impartial admin.. that can track this..
You also need to make you have a good admin with a set of rules of what they can/can't do that won't step in and interfere when they don't need to.

screenshots of the score?... :/

Be careful not to get laggy servers.. set some kind of requirement. because you don't want people fussing about lag making them loose.

If a match comes to a draw after a time limit.. do it by total kills per team... that is if both teams still have an OM/Reactor.

If the entire alien base is killed and its just one bastard dretch then the humans win..

This "post in this thread" thing might become complicated and messy...

Also before the match they need to agree on BP/FF/Gravity/Time of day etc...

You would need to do PHP, because you can't use HTML and get a DB to work.  Silly zeta.

If you are willing to help us that would be great, but we haven't even looked into a site yet.

I'd be up to helping.. but i'm busy busy.. so i don't know how much coding i could knock out.. DB schemas are really easy for me though.
You'd also have to be really careful none of this could get hacked and some team instantly has 200303 wins or something..
I'd suggest just getting a schema and using access maybe.. until you had hosting..

PHP sucks :o

Sadly, it's often the cheapest and easiest to find solution :(

no what i will do if we want to is setup a subdomain, trem.arena-zone.com and have a whole frest system setup. Then we could pick admins who could help manage the whole thing :)

Well.. sounds excellent... but is there already a system set up?.. it looks like there are already ladders going... i mean.. would WE have to set up a system or is there already one in place.. such as being able to enter clans/members etc, and get stats?...
This looks like a great solution...
