Now for a structured bitch.

It's so hard to find a good game anymore. Why is it everybody with a server HAS to modify theirs as much as they possibly can?
Just to set it straight, I like mods, I like what they've done for Trem, kept it alive, kept it interesting.

But now, there is no Vanilla Trem. It has vanished under tides of "for teh lulz" mods, which mostly make no sense and although amusing after 20 minutes, you realized you just wasted your time without getting any real experiance from it. Im talking about that two hour long game, where your mouth hung open the whole time, you cheered at your teams victories, squared your shoulders at the hardship and sweated profusely. And set land speed records to and from the bathroom.
You wonder to yourself, where the piss have all the normal servers gone?

However, worn-out "lolmods" aren't solely at fault. Its the maps that we play.
Or to be specific, THE map.
Why is it that every non-standard map and Transit, Karith, Niveus is merely an exursion from ATCS, to which we are bound to return shortly.
Don't get me wrong, everyone knows ATCS is a good map, its why its on so often (that and because new folk often don't understand autodownload (irony much)).

But for gods sake just how many thousands of possibilities are there of it playing out???
If there is a tangible number, I feel like Im approaching it.

I could just exit the server and find another, but, wait, ATCS is EVERYWHERE.
We've got genii such as YF, TRaK, supertanker, Brain, Taiyo.uk, Odin, Gareth, Ingar
releasing maps, yet we download them, take a look at them in a private server, then forget them, acknowledging that they are awesome maps, but sadly no-where popular and fast runs them.
Think of the awesome games that could be had!
Lets take a look at Pulse by Soubok, although it is still awaiting some final touchups (made possible by 1.2) a game on this with 12 or so folk is amazing!

So please, I beg you servermasters, add MOAR MAPS to your rotation, ease off the ATCS and make you're .cfg slightly more normal.
(saying that, I loved the concept of R Funserver CZ's buildible objects. If we had a map that complemented that, t'wud be awesome.)
I believe this could really help the popularity of Trem.

ATCS isn't overrated, but it is overplayed.  Its great for clanwars because its fair, but we should play other maps too.
All those mods can be fun to play on (to a small small small extent), but if we want a real game, we just settle for a less populated server :/

Whatever happened to the servers with only custom maps?
And worrying about the newbies not being able to download maps is an old argument. They have to learn sometime...

AA doesn't have any crazy mods.

AA has ATCS until a set number of players join, then switches to other maps. Come during prime hours and you wont see too much ATCS.

Why no custom maps? The devs were silly and didn't make cl_allowdownload 1 by default.

Or, the dev's are nice law abiding people who didn't want to get blamed when server owners got dragged to court for illegally installing software on people's computers.
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

I don't get how maps are the same.
When I played wolfenstein, maps were downloaded automatically, should those people be in jail?
Pretty much the same for every game I've played.

there's no way to distinguish a map from a mod until you've downloaded it.

Is there no way to make it distinguishable?

Couldn't the download prompt idea be adapted to do this?

Yeah, that'd worked fine.

The problem is that it wasn't and isn't implemented. :P
