The Country Turkey (Banned)
« on: December 29, 2009, 05:47:15 pm »
Hi.
Got an email from a clan member telling me he can't connect to the Tremulous server lists.
He searched into the reason for this and found out that Timbo had not only banned
a player called Forqu3 but his entire country as well.

http://www.locutus.us/For-a-single-player-a-whole-country-is-banned
http://forums.atomicmpc.com.au/index.php?showtopic=25951

It all looks real enough to me but can someone please comfirm if this is the case
and if possible remove the Ban. (seems a Little harsh don't you think?)

I searched here first for this topic but it came back with nothing,
100 million Turks can't be wrong.

I beleive that ttnet (aka TurkTelekom) is banned.
Timbo is the person who you need to talk to about changes.

And as for not hearing of F0rqu3, you obviously are not an old tremulous player. He was quite, uh, well known for a long time.

He's Turkish, or at least lives there, thus Turkey being the place banned.

When mooseberry says "old tremulous player" what he really means is "old forum and IRC user".

sometimes mods/admins need to goto this extreme to get rid of some people who insist on doing bad things some people will always get caught into the crossfire cant be helped not without huge internet changes.

not really sure what he did and i don't really care but to ban a whole country they prob had enough reasons and he prob had enough chances

He had a loooong history of causing trouble. iirc, he started out with good contributions (he developed tremX) but he started causing all kinds of flame wars, spam, etc. I do not know what he did originally to warrant a permanent ban on his first account, but since than he has created and used somewhere near +-10 different accounts (all subsequent 9 being against forum rules).

And apparently Timbo got sick of banning his multiple accounts, and banned all of Turkey.

P.S. I'm not voicing any opinions here, I've talked to the person in question, and I don't find him to be bad in person, but I saw what he did on the forums, and I'm just trying to say what happened as I remember.

Hopefully this problem will be sorted out and everything will be fine.

I can't say the same for Timbo's mental state.

Well if he flamed/spammed/whatever at the forums, and now his entire country is banned I can... I still can't understand that, sounds rather extremely harsh. But c'mon banning ENTIRE country on master server because some moron spammed official forums? That's just retarded. You could as well ban France because they love to talk in french like everywhere, and P(r)oland because that's the kingdom of retards (irl too, btw).

As I recall the master server block was due to repeated attacks against the master server.
No other user banned from the forums has had any kind of action taken on the master server. (AFAIK)

And it seems somewhat hypocritical to says it seems harsh to single out an entire country, and then promptly make raciest sweeping generalisations about entire countries.

1) Well I didn't know that, it seemed that the ban was only because of forque
2) My point was to show that if you follow the way of banning entire country because of one of it's citizens, you might end up with whole world banned.

PS.
B) The bans already been lifted.

Can players from Turkey connect to a certain server though it's IP address ?
or has this ban been lifted, The reason i ask is that a mate from turkey has
now been able to connect to my server( i gave him it's IP address) but the bugger
is never on there when i am so i can't find out how he connected.

But this isn't a country being banned, but rather a major network (ttnet) that happens to be in that country. I don't see how that is harsh if one guy is using that network to attack the master server or ban evade on the forums. As I understand it, it was the only thing that could be done to keep this guy away (10 ban evasions? He is certainly persistent if nothing else). Furthermore as the last post shows, its not even banning someone from that network from playing the game, merely shutting him out from the master server. If someone were to mirror the information from the master server and make it available to people from ttnet, somehow I don't think the devs would mind.
