Try lowering your graphics settings, then try:
Code: [Select]
cl_maxpackets 125this will give you more fps but a higher ping

you arent really helping out :/.......

anyways, if you are like me and you enjoy quality gfxs, but dont really care about sound. try these:

seta s_khz "0"               //volume, 0 reduces lag
seta s_loadas8bit "1"
seta s_compression "1"        //use sound compression
seta s_mixPreStep "0.08"
seta s_mixahead "0.12"        //controls delay used to mix and combine sounds
seta r_ignoreFastPath "0"

play close attention to s_mixprestep and s_mixahead, you may get slight sound distortion depending on the values, in which case youll need to increase the mixahead value and decrease the mixprestep.

its pretty relative, but you may see a significant increase in FPS.

If you do that can you still hear the game play cause i can't play w/o sound.
So do i type it in console eg: /seta r_ignoreFastPath "0" becasue it doesn't seem to work like that. Im not so cluey on this. thx.

yes you can still hear sound lol. if you are just going to input them in console simply type /r_ignorefastpath....... in other words remove the seta.

ah yeah, if you are using the default client( if you dled tremulous from tremulous.net) it wont work. You can download other clients off of the MG website or TremFusion which support this cvar.

Does /r_ignoreFastPath make a difference on your system ? When I tried this the generic path gave the same FPS as the "fast" path.

it's all relative really, but for the most part youd only see a 1-2 fps difference, but all of those cmds or cvars in combinations might give you anywhere from 5-10 fps.

Ancient topic. Is there some sort of max on the FPS? I find that I get 90 FPS NO MATTER what my graphics are set at, highest, lowest, doesn't matter at all. Would there happen do be a g_maxfps 90 cvar on my configs or something?

Just make sure r_swapinterval is set to 0 if you really want a higher FPS :3

SPEAKING of that Wiki article, what do those different FPS caps each do to help? (60, 125, 333) And I thought 76 was another one of those? :\

but a small twisty barrel will have small pew pew's, and small pew pew's can hurt mr.tyrant.

60 seems to be wrong. Basically with various FPS values the engine has different rounding errors which alter your jump height depending on the FPS you have at the time of jumping. There are some "sweet spots" that give you an increased jump height, such as 76, 125 and 333 (or actually, since Quake allows only certain FPS values that the engine rounds automatically for you, 72-76, 112-125, 251-333.) On the other hand some FPS values actually give you a decreased jump height. cl_maxpackets is also linked to framerate, it should be set to a fraction of com_maxfps.

There are various guides on the Net for all the Q3 connection settings.

Well, an actually higher value of cl_maxpackets may indeed help, what it does is described here: http://tremulous.net/wiki/Cl_maxpackets – however, if your fps go below 30 from time to time, I'd say this is not it. Worked wonders for me personally, but your problem most likely lies somewhere else.

Question, if you do a /devmap transit for instance, and wander through the map, what is your framerate then??
I have retired from Tremulous. Definetely. If you play a game just because it has become a habit, but u'r only feeling like a kindergarten teacher - well, maybe I am just getting too old (hell, I was a teenager when DukeNukem3D was *new*) - it's probably not a bad idea to just let it be. And I do.

Don't take this personally. Have fun, guys.

90. No matter what, never lags unless I'm in a UBP spamroom with dretches running all over the rets. I think that's severside though, never checked to see what happens to the FPS.

So are there any disadvantages to the com_maxfps to, say, 120?

125 is 1 of the good values (tho according to Meisseli 120 is the same) As long as your PC can keep the fps at that value constantly, it will increase your jump height. If it sometimes drops below that, you should set it to 76 if you want the jump height advantage at all times. Other than that there is no disadvantage that I know of.

Just to clarify, yes, the game allows only FPS values that are equal to (1000/n), where n = 1,2,3... Thus, you'll notice that even if you set your com_maxfps to 120 (1000/120 = 8,333...) , or even 112 (1000/112 = 8,9286) the meter still reads 125 (= 1000/8). The game has rounded n down for the value to be equal to (1000/n).
