Power Moves (aka Skills)
« on: January 20, 2010, 02:59:23 pm »
What I'm suggesting are actual powerful attacks or skills like in RPG games. Here is a little in-side view how i mean it. To use better skills you must register in the game. you can get better skills by just getting amount of kills, building destroying etc.

(Cooldown: the time you need to wait before you can use this skill again)

Some skills might require a special state, lets say, while being grabbed by basi, when on low health etc.
When a skill is activated, you and the victim goes into third-person and maybe from different angles providing great shots.
Here is an example skill:

The basilisk crusher (H)
Requirements: Battle suit, Shotgun.
Cooldown: 20 seconds.
State: while being grabbed by a basi, must be facing in the basi direction.
Key: press taunt button while facing the basi.
Use: Quickly grabs the basi by the neck and shoots him in the face with a shotgun. insta-kill. Cannot move while doing this skill.
Third-person: For victim and the skill user.

FEAR ME!!! (A)
Requirements: Tyrant
Cooldown: 30 seconds
State: while standing still.
Key: press the taunt button.
Use: Does the normal taunt animation of tyrant. Every un-armored human who saw the tyrant, loses 20 health which regenerates like 1 hp in 3 seconds, and has the basi gas effect. The Battle suit loses only 10 health and doesn't get the basi effect.
Third-person: Only for the un-armed humans and the tyrant.
...princibles of judgement do not apply to me.

Good idea, except for the rpg skills bit.
I thought a while ago about a set of "execution" moves for each class. only usable as you kill an enemy, and the animation still leaves you open to damage so you should only taunt like this if you feel safe. Say for humans you could pick up a dretch and squeeze it till it bursts or punt it. A Goon could clamp both front legs into the heels of a fleeing human, freezing him, and plunge its head through the gut and out onto the other side. Rant trips dying human, uses rear legs to pull human beneath it from its front, slams down on human in big glorious red explosion. Real gory stuff, with the camera angles and stuff, like the thereisnospoon camera animation from quake 3 jedi academy

Well that's why I'm just suggesting this, I'm not a coder, and not even a modder. The skills you may get would be like +1 reason why you want to play. It's something like Unlockable weapons in Battle Field 2, and ofcourse, why the skill is active, you may still recieve damage.

"lets make trem a fps/rts/racer/arcade/platformer/fighter/rpg/sports game!"

Maybe i'm crazy but... Here's my view on this:

Keep Tremulous what it is. I play it because it's an fps/rts and it's not ridiculous like a lot of other games that try to blend two types of games. It's mostly sensible and isn't complicated beyond simple strategies and the need for skill and good aim.

It seems like they're already taking out the need for skill, and putting a huge emphasis on teamwork and which weapon you buy... I realize this isn't CSS and it shouldn't be all about how good your aim is, but it's not "winnie-the-pooh teaches teamwork" either. If you're really fucking skilled, then you should be able to rape people who aren't as skilled.

Skill in using the class, and good aim should still account for something.

If I want to play a game with special powers that have mass effects like some goddamn priest or warlock i'll go play WOW
And if i want to play a goddamn platformer where button combos instantly kill someone i'll play Mortal Combat or something.

Just my opinion but nobody should be able to press a button and insta-kill me by pressing a button, not for any reason, ever.

Make them learn how to aim and make tactical decisions. Don't just give them a noob(retard?) spam button that kills 25% of the enemies they'll face.

Yes. Massdriver. Takes skill and aim. Have to watch your reloads. A good human with a MD can kill a basi every time, and goons part of the time. And 1v1 if you can't kill a dretch with a MD... go get a new mouse, and a new arm/hand. Use a lasgun. Not the stupid new pulse. Not the chaingun. Not the luci. Not the flamer. Use the psaw. Use the MD. Use the rifle. Or the blaster if you want to get really pro.

How about "skills" like:
Hop the reactor (requires basi/mara/goon, or extra fame if done with granger)
Snipe the armory/dc (requires +goon)
Psaw the overmind (requires larmor+psaw)
etc
You see, trem already has Skills/Power Moves
It seems like they're already taking out the need for skill, and putting a huge emphasis on teamwork and which weapon you buy... I realize this isn't CSS and it shouldn't be all about how good your aim is, but it's not "winnie-the-pooh teaches teamwork" either. Taking out the need for skill? How about the armory hp increase making taking it down require at least a liiiittle bit of skill instead of what 1.1 has...
Aim is not that much of a skill IMO, and can be improved with cheats; dodging, lucijumping, dretching, basi grab, mara hopping, goon pouncing (as movement not attack)/sniping, trample require "skill". Considering that, 1.2 requires a lot more skill since aliens now need secondary attacks more (basi is easier, but imo too few are any good with it in 1.1).
Oh, and teamwork is a skill. A very important one, and even helps in real life.

Yeah, Tremulous is nearly perfect as it is. Don't need new RPG nonsense. The new basi-heal-aura is about as RPG as it should get. I still think that each (alien) class should have a set of (3 maybe?) death animations, so that we're not always seeing the same death/collapse.

:D I'm glad someone else likes the lasgun. It's one of the best weapons IMO because it's accurate, powerful, never needs reloads, has tons of ammo, and is pretty damn powerful, for a low low price of just 250 credits, and doesn't give away extre evo points!

Also:  :basilisk::battlesuit: =   :granger::grenade:

Man I've spent so many hours on that game. Also Lego Star wars had a self destruct for droids that is similar.
