It would be distracting.
It would give you away.
It would glitch on certain maps.
Tremulous isn't about eye candy. It's about gameplay (IMO)

Well, people already turn on cg_shadows as a form of seeing around corners *cough*ACRinScrims*cough*; seeing your own wouldn't be that big of an issue.

The biggest problem with having you see your own shadow is just getting someone to do it in the first place. :P

cg_shadows should render your own shadow too. The big issue with cg_shadows is that it not only shows the shadow around corners, but also through walls, so it may be considered a cheat.

I'd consider that as a bug.

A bug which can be exploited.

Personally I don't really care if people try to use it to get an advantage, but in clan matches it could be a problem I guess.

thats why I have the theory to put tremulous on the source engine but not the slow 2007 engine the good fast 2004 engine and I know the source engine is not for quake gamers since they think it sucks it's not that bad I mean there is half life 2 deathmatch and for those who don't have that good of computers it can always be optimised for a bit of poformance the source engine just has bettter and shiny effects people think this is not a big deal but eye candy is a good essence to me and thats why valve software created the source engine to make things look mroe realistic sorry for my bad english :o

I believe that noone will stop you if you port Tremulous to the source engine, but don't expect that other people will do that work for you.

Well screw that - the site says you can work from home.  I'd go work there if I could be a Kiwi.
