Yet another engine :) UDK

Its toolset for game creating. Free for freeware games and only for windows. I saw almost all tutorial videos and I think that is absolutely amazing. Tremulous should be easilly to (trans)port to this.

What do you think about this? Its good/bad?

It seems that devs doing all for shutting down tremulous. Isnt better just turn off master server and website?

In my older topic about Cube2 engine I saw few interesing opinions why is that engine good or bad, So I hope someone with brain will comment this engine/toolset too, not only stupid "go code it" nonsenses. Because I think that it looks very nice. I see only one bad thing - is windows only, but Unreal Engine 2 was for linux and mac too, so maybe this will be someday too. But that not bothering me, I am windows user.

It's windows only, the dev team all use linux/mac, most people here use linux/mac, so this engine fails to meet the basic requirements.  Add the fact that it's already been said that trem isn't getting ported anywhere, and I really can't see why it's worth wasting a load of time to read up on it.

winblows only == no way!!!!

Unreal engine is closed source too in sure its a great engine but till recently costed hell of alotta money to use. im not sure how "limited" the "free" version that came out is anyway no linux support(i guess for now havent looked into it) and the fact that its closed source i think is more then enough to rule it out

I really wish you bother to read all that I said from the 4 sentances I posted before you go on and insult me, if only to spare yourself from the irony.

I will try to say it again, but simpler. Many people here do not use windows, so you are automatically going to be up against a large portion of the community. Knowing this, it would be more useful to you, and to others who are interested, for you to present your understanding of the engine, its benefits, its drawbacks, and general information, and then people will be more inclined to discuss and take it seriously.

I never tried to insult you or the engine, just say what I explained above. Please don't be so quick to misunderstand.

I don't recall if I've ever expressed these sentiments before, but any discussion of other engines is really an academic exercise. Moving to a different engine basically entails a complete rewrite and (I hope) is obviously not something we want or have the time to do. The only realistic option for better graphics (which seems to be the main motivation for this thread) is to use something based on Q3 like XReaL or the UrT renderer.

I want to know opinions on some engine and I getting replies about devs, go code it, 1.2 etc. Why? I never said that devs should use that engine, or someone else. Its so much complicated to talk only about ENGINE?

SlackerLinux: this is first post on-topic. You can use that non-limited engine for free games. If you want to make commercial game, you need to pay. Open source is not needed, because all things can be done with toolset or with scripring. But windows only, yes. That Tremulous will not be ported to it in any foreseeable future.

If you want to know how it would be suitable for Tremulous, then are you considering assembling a team to port it? Because, as you already know, the dev team is not considering putting their energy towards that effort. If you aren't going to do it, and the dev team isn't going to do it, then this thread is pretty much moot. By the way, your initial post does not make it clear that you'd just like to discuss the engine, it pretty much looks like you want to talk about porting Tremulous to that engine. Which, if you've been listening, you should by now realize ain't gonna happen, unless you plan on doing it. Thank you for giving up. You were really having a hard time trying to take two different positions and arguing for neither.

Not to mention the immense language barrier between said pollack and everyone else.

Anyways, the UnReal engine is renowned for it's high graphics capability. NOT compatibility (not towards a quake engine and filesystem, or towards linux-based os's users) , which, mind you, is one of the major things we need in any realistic option and choice for a considerable game engine for which to port Tremulous to.

But if you want to talk about how pretty it is, then I'm sure a lot of people will agree.

Tremulous will never be 'ported' to another engine. Anything resembling Trem would have to be written from scratch, as you're aware (because people told you in that other thread)...

But I saw somewhere that xreal tremulous can be compiled only for linux yet.

Are you sure it said it can only be compiled for linux, or was it that it only compiles in linux? Either way, Xreal's renderer is still pretty awesome.

To fix windows compiling it would only require building the project files for visual studio (afaik)

Who cares about that? If trem has right now about OVER 9000(!!!) players then after moving to Unreal engine it would be under 1000, how cool would it be playing in empty servers and buildings for the company?
