orly?

But seriously. Digi, I know where you're coming from, and I know you want to prove that you've played Tremulous a lot. But you HAVEN'T. I've been playing regularly for 2 weeks, which is definitely much more than you, and when I've put up suggestions they've been beaten to the ground. And rightly so. Looking back, those suggestions were crap, and I didn't know the game well enough. I probably still don't know it well enough.
You see, it's not about how many times you die, or how many hours you play, as some people will lead you to believe. It's playing until you've seen every trick, every room used as a base, every strategy used, every bug/imbalance exploited, EVERYTHING. Until one has experienced that kind of thing, one can never hope to think of some unit/structure ideas that make sense.
And please stop arguing that you ARE a Tremulous master. All it takes is a glance at your original post, and everything is clear. The question you've failed to ask is: why?
- Why do aliens need mines, when a trapper and acid tube do the same thing?
- Why do aliens need flying units? Let alone, you described a structure that turns THE ENTIRE TEAM into flying units?
- The other thing is, you have to elaborate on what these things are. What is a "shield structure"? That's very general.
- Why do aliens need an advanced acid tube? Why do humans need an advanced turret? Bases are meant to be destroyed; as is, they usually come down at stage 3. What you propose would basically make every game end in a tie, as no team would be able to take out the other's base.
- Why do humans need mines? Is there something that mines can do, but turrets can't?
- Why should any human be immune to small aliens? Is that supposed to BALANCE things? Why would a human want to explode when he can just drop a grenade?
- Why do humans need 3 new armour types?
Now do you understand how little you've thought out those ideas? I agree with the complete basic concept of a couple of them, but your plans are, no offense, not thought out at all.
- A cloaking device would be useful for humans, and would give them a reason to leave the base instead of camping
- A "shield generator" structure that gave energy shields to each structure, worth +50% hp, would be a good way to combat the game-ending Tyrants. However, such shields would have to be useless against sniping, and useless versus small aliens.
Now, I don't know whether those are good ideas or crap ones, but the question "why" was asked just the same. The cloak is to encourage leaving the base instead of camping, the shield is to weaken Tyrants versus buildings (unless they destroy the generator), since they're a little too strong against buildings anyway.
The first step is finding out the real reason why your improvements should be there. The next step is actually thinking up decent improvements. Sorry to be so harsh, but it has to be beaten into everyone's head at some point.
