are you using mesa drivers?

it seems like you are... according to that horrible FPS drop D:

1.open a terminal <--- you may need root privileges

2. type: lspci

3. post the output

as far as videogames go, stick with the windose...

for everything else, use *nix

Actually, try using Windows for everything.  You will see, contrary to popular belief, that it does quite well.

Right now I play trem on XP but Im trying to get Linux set up. More specifically , Fedora Core 11 since I already had it.
Speaking of which, I am able to run trem in linux but I get much lower fps than I should. In XP i get about 250 where in FC I get about 40-50. Anyway I determined that the problem is my openGL driver. I have my graphics card driver installed correctly and apprently some version of opengl was installed with it. I am able to run glxgears in the terminal and what not, but I guess the driver isnt supported by trem or something. Im pretty sure that the highest version of opengl that my card supports is 3.2 and I can't seem to find older versions of it anywhere, just 4.0. Anyone happen to have any ideas?

A GeForce 6200 will only support OpenGL 2.1 at best, OpenGL 3.x is only available in the 8xxx and newer cards. The driver will detect that automatically, so you should install the newest drivers available from NVidia.com.

Run glxinfo and check that the 3rd line is
Code: [Select]
direct rendering: Yes
If this is "No" you have software rendering. Also check that the OpenGL vendor is NVidia. Possibly the nouveau drivers are still active and they are slow and buggy (whereas the NVidia drivers are fast and buggy).

It says yes. I already installed the driver from nvidia (last week so its up to date)
I noticed when I got to options in trem, where it says opengl driver, its blank. I also can't change it.

Take it to PM or new topic. This actually isn't your troubleshooting thread.

Switched to win xp recently. Gotta say that on my crappy harware, trem ran a little better under Ubuntu b4 I switched, but that's not nearly enough to keep one there.

BELIVE ME LINUX IS SOMETHING YOU WOULD LOVE.. BUT THE CONDITION IS THAT YOU H******8... AND MAC .....

I've installed (and played) Tremulous on Windows XP, Windows 7 (which I'm on now), several different Linux distros (including Debian, Slackware, openSUSE, and Ubuntu), and OS X. Any difference in the playing experience is in your head. Now, what prizes do I get? :D

PS: As a Linux user, Windows 7 isn't as bad as everyone says.

ok, can you give me the tool thingy app that can code?
