Aliens Win
« on: May 18, 2010, 11:19:34 pm »
so, i finally made one of my maps work, because of a stupid error of mine (maps in the wrong folder, also the problem in my level1 map). yay it works! but i have one error and one question. is there a way to set a default light through the same level? ex if everything is lighted the same brightness, and the error is that instantly when i load it, Aliens win. any help? (i got intermission and spawners for both teams and OM/RC)

EDIT: if you tell me how i can give you the map, i will give it to you and then you can modify if and if you want to be helpful add lights (from temor) and try to make the ladder work if it dosent.

You can add over all lighting by selecting a wall, press 'N', then enter in key: ambient, then below that, 1.
Most likely your human spawns are too close to the floor.

Ambient will add constant lighting, but I wouldn't recommend it, it looks rather ugly...
and yes, aliens insta-winning means your nodes aren't surviving(likely too close to a brush)

For light the best is to use shader lights whenever possible. Just select a surface you want as lamp and apply the shader to it. You will also need to compile the light stage.

1. You need some light source, entity or shader lights. I guess ambient light doesn't work for entities then...
2. What do you mean with 'disappeared'? If you can't see them in radiant then check the view menu -> filter and uncheck whatever may be related to it.
3. What kind of barrel? Models are non solid, you will need to make a nodraw covered brush inside it. Same for patches, even tho they are solid, the model is placed improperly even tho the bbox is in the right place IIRC (check with cg_drawbbox 1).

Most triggers are invisible brushes that are activated when enter them.  Think of the trigger brushes as a magnetic field, in order for it to work, an object must enter the field.  The models are usually appear a shade darker with ambient.
