Base layouts
« on: July 22, 2006, 01:48:31 am »
I've tried all kinds of searches on the forum, but can't find any good threads about building, and base layouts. Basically, I'm trying to figure out what a good alien or human base looks like, and I need a tutorial or something to help me out.

Can anyone link me to some threads like this? I really can't seem to find them >_>

Thanks,

These are some ones you might want to take a look at =

Its not a definitive guide.. its just the ones i've seen recently..
and the search function.. is pretty useless sadly..

Also.. while your playing.. just look at your base... see which ones last long.. and take notes... Where did it fall apart at?.. What could have been done better?

Respectively any large post by me would be a tutorial or guide on these forums. Currently in the works is a mapping tutorial.
I’m busy. I’ll ignore you later.

Alright, I've already looked through those threads you mentioned, PIE, so I've already sucked all the usefulness out of them. And thanks Survivor, those threads were exactly what I was trying to find. Just couldn't find the right search terms. (I just glimpsed the picture of the egg hitbox, that explains why those things never seem to die)

Anyway, thanks to both of you. I was expecting at least one post saying something like "omfg lern 2 serch, we're not your slaves n00b". That's what I get in most forums when I can't find the right search terms.

Well, you're lucky there're still just a few noobs around this forum. You can expect such responses when such questions appear 3 times a day.
If my answer to your problem doesn't seem helpful, it means I won't help you until you show some effort to fix your problem yourself!
1.2.0 release's been delayed for 5:48:00 already because of stupid questions.

Best advice I can tell you is to observe base designs that work and those that dont.  Such as, if a newbie builder builds a base, and it fails, you could try and figure out why.   Along the same pages, watching how a good builder builds will help you alot.

The 2nd best advice is the learn the maps.  10-1, the original base location is pretty bad in many maps.  If you know the map well, you can figure out where to hide an egg(s) the most efficently, and figure out where and when to move the base at the beginning if you need too.  Its teh same for humans.

And if you ever decide to be a builder for the Alien team... PLEASE realize that trappers need to point at the target to trap, and that the human team CAN shoot your defense from a distance, so build accordingly.

Alright, I've finally started to memorize the maps, so I'll check out that "common base locations" thread again. Someone should really draw/screenshot out map layouts from a vertical view, too: having an actual map would help a lot. It's one thing to know what rooms look like and how they connect, it's a whole other thing to gauge the distance between these rooms, as 3d video games often mess with your perception.

Anyway, thanks for the help ^^ (and yes, I do know how to build a proper alien base, lol)
