Funny program to play with : Sculptris
« on: May 28, 2010, 06:42:24 pm »
Try this funny easy to use program, if you know zBrush, I think it's kind of the same, but free.
Doesn't work on linux. Yet.

Downloading now,
this should be interesting because Blender stinks for sculpting well...

can the models be imported into trem like blender can?

HOLY CRAP! this is SO much easier than blender!

You can import them in blender, but you better reduce polycount before importing it into trem

What r u talking about!?!?
Blender is extremly good for sculpting, if you know how to use it. It is way better than sculptris, too. The thing is blender is just good for everything, and so much more advanced. Therfore harder to use. So scultris is simply easier to sculpt with, not better.

Okay lets put it THIS way.
Blender sucks(isn't that good it's decent) at sculpting compared to Zbrush.
It can't handle polys as well and is a different work flow.
I have used Blender for 2 years,
I used Maya for 1 year before that.
I understand Blender's capacity extremely well.
The only things in blender I have not touched much is Python scripting in the BGE,
compositing, advanced(mancandy advanced) rigging and have not gotten much into character modeling...

I have used Blender for 4 years. Maya for maybe 1, probably less.
Also, I thought we were talking about sculptris, not ZBrush.

EDIT: And why does blender suck? It has a frigin built in GE! (That I have deeply endulged)
Blender has been around for ALOT longer than Zbrush or sculptris, and it has been improving alot faster too.

Are those the only things you have against blender? Neither of those makes any sense tho ???

If it's easier, doesn't it means it's better? and i think sculptris function are advenced as wel, it's main purpose is that it automaticly adds polys where needed.
I think they are both useful together =)

I love Blender and am all for open source.
If I could only get my hands on Boujo and Zbrush then I'd be set,
and I'm not going to pirate it because it's not right........

The game engine rocks,
I've been the guy picketing trying to say the BGE could do trem on it with most of everyone thinking I'm a fruitcake.
I'm going to use it for some tedious work for some animation(bullets, and such),
I love how it works in that respect and see more potential when everyone and their grandma owns a quad core computer because the dual cores will be Intel's Celeron soon enough.

If it's easier that does not make it better. Because it is easier that does not mean it can make a better model. Typically if it is easier then it is less powerful, and blender is very hard to use, according to most "first-timers". So far, it seems that sculptris is very easy to use.

The Blender GE could definitely do everything trem is doing, i'd say. Look at BZoo for example, it has total networking capabilities, and more.

Well "better", "the best" and such are extremely relative - someone considers program as "the best" when it's easy to use, someone else considers program as "the best" when it's extremely powerful. If there was something absolutely the best, then it would be also the worst, because nobody would be using other programs that then would die quickly. Having this in mind there's no point in arguing if blender is better than sculpting, as it's just the matter of opinion.

Sculptris is easier, but that doesn't mean the models are worst ...
Blender can do more stuff, but it's about sculpting.
I personnaly find BGE ugly, I think it has a long way to go, maybe it does everything trem does but .... wait what's the point of that?

lol yes, all sculptris is is limited.

Why is BGE ugly? whats ugly about it? All it is is just a text editor for python and some logic bricks. If it didnt have python it would be almost useless.

Well easy to sue is great, however in the end you need to decide on how it works....

Regarding the BGE,
I have worked with it enough to conclude PORTING trem to it,
getting really nice graphics wouldn't be that bad and in the end you would get good FPS.....
Now for now it's a novelty but in 2 years if you have a $500 computer (that will be a I7!!!!)
then well who gives a rip if BGE isn't "Perfectly Efficient" like Quake 3 because well you know what I mean.

Okay now ti works with my computer....
Hmm well it's cool and I like it.
It's better than Blender on simplicity and a few other things.
I'll give it a shot,
don't expect much from me other than nice animations :)

If you ever wanted a sculpted mesh to be usable just decimate it in blender or maybe use a plugin to bake detail to NOR map then decimate the mesh.....

Heck of a lot better than what I've got done...
I can't model worth beans unless I have references and a person telling me what to do.
I'll keep trying and see what happens.
I like this more than tweaking verts for organics but I have no idea how much hair I'd rip out to get it
to some decent topology.

What do you think ?

Not too bad,not enough details and small edges like the one around hands are wierd + with his body forward like that, not sure he would not fall forward
Although I couldn't even do something like this so i'd better shut up :)

What he said !/\
I could take it and add detail,
I just need to get a start because my head doesn't wrap around a concept unless their is a ref.

Hmm..
Messing with the default head like replacing removing then adding the nose,
mouth and such really helps...
Maybe I'll have something to show tommorow.

In fact it was very easy to do that
thanks to sculptris

but do you know how to do texture relief because the mesh is very detailed.
