I have been constantly tormented by this forum on this stuff.
I should kill my thought of doing something extravagant and put something out to show due to the fact that my work pales in comparison to a pro but would be well received here I think.
However since I've been using Blender for 2 years and Maya before that for a year I can do some okay stuff.

I know what you mean, I'm working on something(hopefully I can keep my expectation low enough so I actually finish) and hopefully I can finish it. I lost a lot of my work unfortunately
