If you are not using enery weapon, it wouldnt let you buy battpack. Noobs buy battpack cause they think its better, and they dont know what is energy weapon.

Also, it can be useful to buy a backpack when you're wearing something like a chaingun, just to store credits.

Moose left out the best part. Not only does a bat-pack give you infinite ammo for both the p-saw AND the blaster, it also turns the saw into a portable medi-station for humans. Equipping a bat-pack/ p-saw combo will allow you to act much like a Medic in TF2. Just get close enough to touch a teammate with the blade while holding down primary fire. When you hear them grunting, that means it's healing.

I can't tell you how many rounds I've saved just by saw-packing my teammates from behind while they were defending against an Alien Rush.
