Dretch Class
« on: August 03, 2010, 10:57:06 pm »
If anyone is working on a new design for a dretch, or anything dretch related, maybe it's best to post them here and other repost them, so it's packed into 1 nice topic.

To kick-off.
I finished modeling, now I need to figure out how to make a UV map, so i can make layered maps.

The model is basicly finished.
I hope to get some UV's done do i can make a displacement map, bumb, normal ect. mappings,
so i can start rigging.

I've done this style of dretch on a earlier trial for a new 'rant. I wanted to have smooth like armor shells, but not too buglike appearance.
Compared to the body, the dretch has a big head. Deadly head bites. Also A big head fits a small/young class.

there are some failed dretch designs that are going to be origins for other classes.

Looks interesting, but adding the armour shell seems a bit contrary to the dretch which is more of a low health, speed alien.

Looks like a replacement basi, if anything.

well cockroatches have the same armour shell-like features, still easy to crush them.I like it.

And a dretch can survive at least 1 bullet. So gameplay is affected much, only the visual part.
OH the armor has a more aerodynamical shape ;)

Funny you'd notice.
I have an aborted sketch for the dretch wich I'm going to use for basi modeling.
Aside from size, their proportional differences are a bit close to each other.

I like it a lot, but it seems to be too high off the ground, if that's its default position.

It looks a bit too raised to me. My advice is to try to shorten the legs and maybe lengthen the body just a little to space out the legs a tiny bit. I think the problem is the legs seem too tall for something small and little buggy like.

Yes, the legs don't make it look like a high-speed creature it is, but otherwise, it's a brilliant dretch!

I'd like new alien models in 1.2 too, at least a better-looking Overmind and Tyrant :)

that might be right, plus i miss the original dretch's six small "pseudo leg" from the bottom :)

Agreed. A better OM and rant would be awesome!

I call this BullRant. Took me 1 hour too make. This is my version of an evolved Tryrant class. I even have a low poly version of this model too.   I just have too rig him up then His legs will go down and look way better.

It looks good, but I dont see how it relates to a tyrant. I guess thats just because its only a head shot? And/or its unfinished? Anyway keep it up :)

you gotta admit, the dretch looks pretty cute like a new granger. anyways, keep up the good models. and that rant, no offence reminds me of a chicken, but better than i can ever do
these are stupid suggestions, don't even waste our time.

I'm having trouble with the UVs. Can't find the right C4D Tutorial. So maybe someone can help or something.

i like typtyphus' dretch much! +1!
i handle the jaws just like this with every aliens.
however, the front legs should be attached to the ground a bit more imho in the case of wallwalking aliens, to provide attaching surface (as seen on this old concept below):
