Zero Gravity Area with no water???
« on: August 24, 2010, 12:36:10 pm »
I will google this later I dont have time now, But quick ? Umm does the water you put in your level come with zero gravity too make your character swim or do you have too apply that setting. I am going to make a space-station and there will be a big hole in the ship were the aliens are, and How can I make it zero gravity in one little area... ???? (Like you will have the humans or aliens swimming but no water)EXAMPLE

as you see, there are many triggers. they activate whenever someone is inside them and affect the person in side it. a trigger_hurt, for example, damages all who touch it or go inside it and a TRIGGER_GRAVITY makes gravity in a certain area. never put a negative value, because then it gets glitchy, unless you want to make a catapult. triggers are like magnetic fields. they affect all inside them but are invisible.
these are stupid suggestions, don't even waste our time.
I don't like your negative attitude.

A trigger_gravity set to 0, like cecil suggested, is fine. Be however aware, that while you can move at the x- and y- axis similar to moving in water, you can't change your speed at the axis in a 0-gravity trigger. So you can't controll your movements up and down, only sideways.

You could also try making a water-shader with an invisible texture, but then humans inside would look like they were swimming, and would drown of course after some time.

Perhaps keep it at a low gravitational pull so players can descend if they need to.

On an unrelated and understandable note: gravity around 50-100 would be good, there's enough drag to move down but not enough to hinder good jumps.

Hmmm. Too bad that there ain't trigger or similar that can make you wallwalk automatically when you hit certain surface, and doesn't depend on building, classes or humans...

Gah, this pops full of ideas to my head. And may affect nicely on map playability. Uh, someone should try make this trigger/shader?

cant there just be a way to rotate the gravitational pull

No. The gravity is hard-coded to be downwards. id Software did not think people would need to have variable gravity.
