Calling all Coders, Graphic Designers, and Modelers
« on: October 17, 2010, 10:31:58 pm »
Hello everyone.

Its been a while since I came back.

Well 1.2 wasn't released still...

But I'm starting a major Single, and Multi-Player Project using the Quake3 Engine.

I was wondering who would like to join. I can't share the information on the project, but it is very organized and we will be making a domain and forum for the project.

Full credit will be given, and a full share of the profit will be given.

So far these are the people included in the project:

Me
-Sonic- (Air France)
Jackmcbarn
Foe of Eternity (Qwerty)
Robfd
FirstInAction (First16, etc.)
Lambda * [WHERE ARE YOU!]
-Exiled- *
Sean
Francis
Oliver

The only problem is, most of us are Coders and Graphic Designers. Not really Modelers, so we are looking for mainly modelers.

You must have a XFIRE or YAHOO (With Messenger) to join the project.

Nobody would be interested in joining unless you actual gave some information about the project, and show any work or planning that has been done.

Anyway, good luck to you.

I feel like by Giving away information, then someone else (KoR) can steal the idea.

So far we have no screenshots of the project.

And we, the modders, mappers, and modelers of tremulous-dot-net-slash-forum don't join prematurely dead or unstarted projects. Edit the OP with exactly what your team members do, vague descriptions of what you plan on doing, and get some work posted before you ask for others. Get some cubes with faces shooting triangles at each other. That'll at least show us (the limited demographic you're trying to attract) that you actually can code and do some artwork. Give us a banner, a splash screen, a menu concept; something to show us that you're capable/something to make us want to help you/something that demonstrates that you are somewhat dedicated and won't ditch the project after three weeks (at BEST).

If not info on this project, then how about some info about what the contributors have done before / what they are capable of, so we can judge whether this project is even worth paying attention to.

Indeed, but they wouldn't want to share said nothing. Someone (KoR) may apparently take said nothing and elaborate on the idea.

Dude if you're just afraid someone steal the idea, then just forget it...
Either you do it better than him and noone cares, either he does it better than you and that proofs you're not so capable.

Also, ioQ3 is GPLed. You're obliged by the terms of the EULA to share any modifcations you make.

Ok, EULA is the wrong word, but the source was released under the terms of the GPL.

Lonly, if your idea gets scammed, so what? Do it first or do it better and people will play your game over KoR's. Don't withhold information on a project. That's foolish and will only serve to make you look stupid. You won't be getting any people to help you if we...
A) don't know what you're doing
B) don't know who's already helping, what they're doing, and how capable they are
C) don't know how capable YOU, as a project leader, are

At the moment all you're doing is making yourself look like an idiot. You're coming here to tell us that you have this great project underway yet you've got nothing to show of it. All you've really done is given us a list of names that includes a handful of people that apparently cannot be found, as well as a kid who had never shown he's got any skill modeling low poly (I'm looking at you, f1rst). Might I remind you that you are making a modification for an extremely low-end engine?

TL;DR: pics or stfu

Incorrect. The Z server was an initiative all of its own with no relation to xomnom.

In fact, xomnom asked to help with Z server and to form a team with the Z server developers. However, he was told no and that was the last we heard of him. You can see this here: http://blogwtf.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=691&page=4&highlight=xomnom

We do not even know if they have code.

Further, Z server has been in development longer than xomnom has even really been heard of.

Also, they have made a separate fallacious claim of their stuff being stolen. Which was also wrong. See: http://blogwtf.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=963&page=1&highlight=Epic

For more information on this, see: http://blogwtf.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=1633

Muffin. Put your name tag on the foot of the human model but don't tell anyone. And if you properly document your goddamned work (ever hear of a forum thread?) then we'll believe it's yours. If I tried to repost someone's random dev shot then I'd get chewed out by everyone who knows it's not mine (because they source the original). ::)

You guys worked on tremulous didn't you?
No. There's a list of devs here. I never claimed we worked on Tremulous. I said we were the modelers, mappers, and modders of http://www.tremulous.net/forum and that's the goddamned truth.

Also, ioQ3 is GPLed. You're obliged by the terms of the EULA to share any modifcations you make.
ioquake3 is an engine, so unless you make modifications to the engine, you don't need to include any changes that you've made.
Secondly, if you write a quake 3 mod and use it with ioquake3 as its engine, you don't have to release the mod's source code (take Urban Terror for instance).

As far as this thread goes, it doesn't look like the OP fully understands what is involved in planning a project. Furthermore, given OP's responses within the thread, it's pretty obvious that this project is a load of hot air.

You can't expect people t want to join a project they don't know about, and also you always say as iff it is YOUR project, it should be something community based and open... also don't start recruiting developers if you don't even have a website up. Quake3 is soon to be outdated, so starting a major project on it at this point would be futile

Goodluck though, i hope you find what your looking for!
