Game very slow on new computer
« on: November 09, 2010, 08:44:03 pm »
I just got a new computer, and for some reason the game is super slow. And I'm not even talking about gameplay. I mean: when the game just starts and you're on the intro-screen. Everything moves very slow and the sounds is stuttering. I cant' move the mouse fluently.

When I go to the server overview, there's not a single server with a ping under 1600.

My old install was on a small old laptop, and that went just fine. And on this newer device, this...

I installed it just like my old install: Tremulous 1.1 first and then the 1.2 beta afterwards.

What's happening here?

Probably bad graphics drivers or possibly a firewall re: 1600 pings.

Probably bad graphics drivers or possibly a firewall re: 1600 pings.

The Firewall alerted me when I first ran the game and asked if it should allow exceptions. I allowed that.

Still, that wouldn't explain the intro screen being slow and stuttery.

bad graphics drivers
Its definitely this. I made the mistake once of running trem on a fresh linux install without getting the specific drivers for my card. Everything was like 4 FPS and no sound. Find out the make and model of the graphics card you have, and search online for the drivers that are appropriate for your operating system.
