MAD Server
« on: November 28, 2010, 02:31:20 am »
Who is in charge of the MAD server. many of the admins are very elitist, consistently put people down, swear, etc, and discriminately ban people.

I'd guess the MAD admins are.

My word of advice is to just not play there.

If you're playing the GPP, then you're generally best to the official servers, they're generally well-admined and the players are generally not bad.

You managed to say generally three times in the span of one sentence. Nice. :D

Indeed, many of the clan servers not best suited for public games because all the clan members have admin... regardless of maturity.

I was told the official servers do not have Admins. The last time I played, which was the US official server, cause I have been at least staying away from MAD, I heard a Admin warning someone?

Frankly I just wanted a family fun game that I could play with my nephews without all the garbage, which is something I do not like as well.

Then you're better off picking a different game. There are all kinds of people playing, and no one will conform to your expectations. Also, no one will censor themselves just for you.

Try a local game, or make your own server, because much of player in tremulous probably fits your definition of "garbage."

So you have installed GPP now? The official servers have dozens of admins, admittedly of a varying quality, but they do keep order reasonably well.

I did the create a server on the game, but my friends could not find it. That was what I was trying to do, is set up a small server and play at the same time from the same Mac. No I do not know code or terminal, and would need specific instructions, but I thought that is why they have the create a server for???

That is what I was trying to do is do WiFi lan so I could play with my nephews, cause I do not want to expose them to all the BS. I am confused on how to set it up though. Do I just open up my sharing for internet or something like that? I have search Google and these forums, but I admit that Ido not know coding and am very confused by many of the answers, if they even pertain to me.

You should just have to do "Create Server." Modify the settings and click "Create." Once you get that far, you should be able to find the server on LAN. Make sure the setting on the nephew's computer is set on "LAN" and not "Internet."

I did that and had his computer with me and tried to find it on Lan and it was not there. Do I have to do something else like open up sharing on my WiFi etc?

If your interested in making a server without all the shit of the world, generally your best bet is this: http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=3586.0

I don't know exactly how to work lan (I don't think 2-3 player games are the funnest games either).

You shouldn't have to. You just need to be on the same Wifi connection.

Unfortunately tremulous is a bit of a team game, you'll probably need considerably more players (clan matches of 3vs3 are generally considered to be barely enough to play, and even then perhaps not quite enough, 5vs5 is enough). So ultimately you have to put up with some of what you would call garbage, the question is how much can you tolerate. The official servers are undoubtedly your best bet here. If you can't put up with even that, then you either need to create your own small community, or find another game, probably something deathmatch based like nexuiz or alien arena, so you don't require as many people for a game.

There are some helpful people around here, really. However I doubt you will receive a great deal of...anything, going on like you have been.

I have heard many talk about the Official servers and I disagree. They are just as bad or worse. I have seen an Admin do a vote and if it does not go his or her way, they say everyone voted for what they wanted and kick or mute that person. I have seen them over and over again abuse their power. They will kick someone without warning for TKing, but will TK themselves and nothing can be done, not even a vote cause they are immune. The votes themselves can also be very much abused, and are. I complained several times openly of a person TKing for no reason and harassment of me, and did not know why. I he wouldn't stop. I thank asked for a voted, it failed even though I explained the reason, and than that person tried to get me kicked in retaliation. I have openly said something to the Admin that was abusive, but nothing happens. i thought it was better than the Mad server but I am seeing the same thing thing, and the abuse of their power.

No names? No proof? Come on, at least try to provide some evidence

btw. could a mod maybe split away at least some of this to a fresh topic, as it really has little relevance to MAD at this point.

I really do doubt that.
I'm an admin on the official us server, and I don't see any abuse at all(unless calling joke votes and immediately cancelvote-ing them counts as abuse)

I don't know what servers you're playing on, but it doesn't sound like Us1 to me.

Really? For the reasons described above: give us a demo (or condump) or it did not happen. Also, sometimes tking is by accident you know.

I'm not surprised. A lot of the lower admins (L2) have the ability to mute and they are quite abusive of it. They are leftovers of the days when everyone had setlevel, but they are hardly a reason to hate the entire server. US1 is the most active GPP server and it's playerbase is relatively good.

Quite frankly, you'd think an 'accidental' rm of admin.dat would be in order by now.

Now this I believe, many of the L2s are demoted L3s, but condumps would be nice.

Only problem is that the devs are pretty inactive, so instead of having a few bad admins, more likely than not we'd have like 2...

Well if the L4s were all demoted to L3s instead of being removed, and given setlevel again, we'd probably have 80 or so within a week.

You can also /ignore everyone on the server if language is a problem for creating a family environment.
