SKINNING MODELS IN GAME

HEY LISTEN HERE!!!

many ppl are talking about colours on there models right is it possible to put a randomising script in the game that when you enter/purchase/evolve it randomly picks a texture in a subfolder (of course for that  model).

Well skin 'switching' is entirely possible. WF for q3 had a spy class that could shift colors to the opposite team so I imagine it would be possible (though very unimportant) to be able to change skins on the fly if it was coded in.

how so!??

its giving the humans a skin colour for different races. white black yellow and ... am i missing some? and the bugs will have different colours too... not serious diffences just to add variety to the game for each model.

I don't think servers would allow them to run them anyway, the server detects any file modified.

Take a look at other games that allow for custom model/skins or even for user-made-uploaded-to-the-server.

There will be no such thing on "Alien's Wrath".
KISS, Keep it stupid simple.
If it isn't in the distribution, it will not be used.

Only a fraction of the player would consent to download MBs full of models just to join a server on wich they aren't regulars.
And take another look around how are the server faring that force such a thing? Talk about a dying breed there ...

Mabey (and this may have been said somewhere else) the skins could have a shader system with definable RGB values that change the color a little, not enough to camaflouge in a level, but enough to have some differences between players. I have no idea how easy/hard this would be to code but it's an idea.

i never said that the player chosses it!

ok picture this there are three human skins placed in a human skin directory the skins are the same but the skin colours are white (its there already) dark and yellow.

and when you play (spawn/evolve/upgrade) the game give you a random skin for that model.

So one time you spawn, you're a black guy
The next time you're .. er, a yellow guy.
How about, if it were even considered for implementation, tied to the client on connection.

i think the most logical thing in the game are the boundery boxes of the maps, and that the humans dont need food, nor they go to the toilet.

Every time you bring a logic/physics discussion into a computergame, god kills a kitten!
Think of the KITTENS!!!

Why not just use the /sex cvar? You could have 2 different human models for each, male and female, and say 2 for alien, drone and bug.

I think there should be some variation in humans models (race, face). It gets boring seeing the same thing over and over
oo!

you can find some female models( including lara croft :P ) on polycount and IMHO their license allows distribution with trem.
and I tried skinning but tga format is not supported by gimp well. gimp doesnt give correct alpha channel ie if you open it with gimp and save ... fail

It's keep it simple, stupid. Your dumb.

And he already said that he meant for the skins to be in the next release. At least read what you are arguing against.

Allow people to choose a sex (it's already allowed, just there aren't models for it)... and make the player's color reflect their lagometer
Always avoid the bright red players (or if you are bright red, always avoid the bright green ones)

And make them have a hat that grows with kill count and accuracy. For example, in comes Bloodydemon with a tophat that is bigger than space and time. You run away.
