Samurai Clan (yes, we really are in Japan)
« on: January 13, 2011, 06:33:16 am »
Hi, we have our little clan forum set-up for the Samurai Clan of KoRx Tremulous players. Our "clan" is called Samurai - but with the rule being that the names must always being "nekoka" themed (meaning, "feline"); we are Samurai with claws  ;D . We're associated with KoRx and the Japanese Tremulous players clan known as VIP. Hopefully, we can have some tournaments with other clan players regularly in the long run. We hope that a few people will join and help us with adding new material and variation for Tremulous/KoRx, with Asian themes and a style that would fit the concept of the SenGoku [KoRx - Asia] server (sort of a Mod on a Mod on a Mod??). We'll be creating our own specific KoRx-derivative mod to be used on the SenGoku server, and to emphasize the theme of Sen Goku; a time of war and chaos, when for around a century many clans were fighting for domination, using everything from swords to guns and whatever they could lay their hands on. To reflect this, the map settings on the SenGoku [KoRx - Asia] server are highly variable and we're planning to include a few surprises as well which we are currently working on for the future. Our goal in the long-run is to attract more players to the game in the Asia-Pacific region. We hope that other Tremulous players, modders, and artists in the Asia-Pacific region, with an interest in adding an Asian style to Tremulous will join with us in this goal.

SamuraiPuma

You don't have to be Japanese, or even Asian, to join our clan - just having an interest in adding Asian-style to Tremulous and/or KoRx would be enough.

If you want to get onto the SenGoku server, this way is quickest; Create a folder in your Tremulous directory and call it korx032, then go to the KoRx website: Download all these files and place them into that new folder in your Tremulous directory, named korx032. This will allow you to quickly join the games on the SenGoku server. It will avoid a lot of hassles with downloading the mod.

If you want to work on a sailor-suit schoolgirl md3 go ahead...

We'd be just as happy to have Godzilla (or "Gojira" as they call him in Japan)

More seriously though, we've been working on a lot of little changes already. When we have a decent mod playtested and most of the early bugs figured out, we'll start using it part of the time on the server. Getting the VOIP and the Mumble/Murmur server going properly is still a bit of hassle at present, but we'll get it working soon enough.

Nice, nice.
To be honest, I never tried modelling for q3 before. But I'll look into that.

I'm sure I saw some passworded Japanese server in 1.1 before... I guess I wasn't dreaming then.

Good luck, hopefully you'll be able attract lots of new players from your region.

That server was the "Wakame Kombu" - they're only online very rarely and I have not seen them online for months. The name is for a Japanese meal.

There's also the "Prisoncity where diavolos screaming" server but it was offline for the past few weeks until tonight; it's always been erratic. I have never seen an admin there, but he does leave messages sometimes. Until our SenGoku [KoRx - Asia] server started, "Prisoncity" was the only the semi-regular server for Tremulous in our region, and Aussie Assault often had too high ping during busy periods. I sometimes play on Aussie Assault.

Good luck!  Yay for zetaboards :D:D:D (hint hint demo)

We will post demos on our site soon.

Godzilla is feline-themed?

Gojira is atomic-bomb themed. Symbolically. Always attacks Tokyo probably because nobody likes government that much. :)

Maybe we will make a joke mod for Stage 4 with Godzilla only the Alien side, and Ultraman on the Human side. ;)

Common to Japanese style of Tremulous play, always have Friendly Fire enabled. TK by accident is common, but people are usually very polite and apologise a lot. A battle between Godzilla and Ultraman would result in lots of TK on both sides. Since we also want to introduce maps with some destructible triggered elements, they'd probably flatten the ATCS bunker. Poor Tyrants would discover what being punted is like. :) Joking, of oourse.... but, interesting joke idea for one day maybe...

Heh? As if those are associated with each other?

Tremulous is a truly international game, I have encountered every kind of person playing it. That is partly why the game is attractive

All that graph means is that people don't google the word tremulous. People who currently play it are unlikely to google it and other people might use different search engines. That graph doesn't have anything to do with the number of people who play it.

Qrntz is right, however.

Hmm. A clan based in a Mod? Man, trem is dead.

You draw a conclusion that doesn't fit with what actually happens in game development. When there's no longer any interest in creating mods for a game, then it is dead. If clans start up based on a mod of a game, it means that the game still has potential and interest.

And it isnt dead. I just lacks the commercialisation of the game. If it costed money and was commercialised on certain sites, people would buy it.
