Changing textures and models - need help!

Hello dear Tremulous community.

As as newbie 3D artist (Some shit can be seen here: http://www.moddb.com/members/haraldx. Please note - those models are low-poly on intention due to them actually going to a game.) I'm pretty interested in modding a bit Quake 3 and Tremulous, that is - change textures and some models of the game. Basically, I've had problems with changing easy stuff, like a shotgun shell or maybe the rifle shell, made the model, applied the texture, used MilkShape 3D to export to .md3. But the problem starts here - the texture didn't show up in MS3D already, ignoring it, I made the model .md3. Made a zzz-mymod.pk3, put there the texture file and the model. Started up Quake3 - model is fine, but the texture is missing :(. How can I get the texture on? Used Wings3D to make the model and apply the texture. Another question - if I make a weapons' or buildables' model and texture, do I have to make animations too?
