qkey and libcurl

where is it stored in a default linux install?

i had to reinstall OS again.  i dont have much HDD space, so i have both my /usr/share/games/tremulous and /home/*username*/.tremulous files linked to a folder on a flash drive.  i did save my qkey and default cfg file, but trem didnt seem to recognize this.

also, despite me having libcurl.so (version 4 of course, i forget where that goes in the actual package name at the moment) trem does not seem to recognize it, and defaults to udp download, which really sucks at no more than 12 kbps.

qkey goes in ~/.tremulous/qkey
Install libcurl or libcurl4 via your package manager.  Copying a .so from one computer to another won't automatically work.

hrm.... i did copy the qkey to ~/.tremulous.... but it didnt seem to take.  i copied the entire .tremulous folder.

and i did not copy the libcurl, in both instances i installed from the package manager.  would the fact that i am using a 64-bit distro be affecting it?

[wiki]cl_guidServerUniq[/wiki] might be unset (or set, depending on how it was before). there also might be differences between client versions in how they report the guid to the server. are you using a different client than before?

nope, default in both installs.  i've never messed with that setting, so i do not think this would be the issue.

Perhaps you have two qkeys. Check /usr/share/games/tremulous, ~/.tremulous, ~/.tremulous/base, etc for qkeys.

does not seem to be the case, either those locations do not exist, or copying over the qkey there with the saved one has had any effect

I seem to recall the default changing at some point, so saying it's "default" doesn't really mean much.

meaning that this setting has not been changed from the install i made last month, and the install i made this month.  both installations are using the default client.

and a quick check reveals this to be 1

Tremulant

This may be a silly question, but can you be sure you backed up the correct qkey in the first place?
I don't have a trem installation infront of me at the moment but don't you get a separate qkey file in ~/.tremulous/gpp too?

yes, the correct qkey has been saved in the correct folder, i backed up my entire tremulous directory.  i installed the same way both times onto the same operating system (ubuntu 11.04 64-bit), but different actual installs.  both times i dowloaded 1.1 from the package manager, then downloaded and installed gpp from tremulous.net.  my tremulous folder is stored on a flash drive with links pointing to the correct folder locations (/home/USERNAME/.tremulous points to /media/New Volume/tremulous, /usr/shame/games/tremulous points to a folder inside /media/New Volume/tremulous)
